I entered mine, went through the three books I had gotten from the store, and set them down on the bed. I folded my arms and read their names. The Claiming Rites, Finding the One, and Under the Red Moon. There was no order in which anyone should read these books, so I sat down and picked up The Claiming Rites. After an hour, I finished reading. The book made zero sense, and then I picked up Finding the One and spent another hour reading through it. While the first book was incomplete, the second made a little more sense. I picked up the third, which I had gone to Zion’s room with. I took my time reading, and another hour went by.

I fell asleep after several minutes. The next day, I decided to head into a few stores with Jenny. Just to get away from the mansion and have some great company. Something to distract myself from the troubles inside my brain. Jenny and I headed into a book store and we looked around. We both enjoyed reading all sorts of books. Reading something can make you forget about the world around you for a moment and some books can even make you feel like you’re in whatever world is created inside the book. A murder mystery seemed like a good read, so I took a seat and started reading. I had gotten caught up in reading, not sure how much time had passed. The smell of the stew pulled me from my reading. I was over halfway done with the book. I marked my page and set it down. I wasn’t sure if I would continue to read it, but if I had time, I wanted to make sure that I marked my place.

She seemed keen on the idea that a little walk would help Lauren feel better, but Lauren didn’t think her mom would agree to a long hike. Up until a couple of years ago (when she discovered Ray Bradbury and Stephen King), Lauren had loved reading the Trixie Belden mysteries and at the moment she felt a lot like Trixie, off investigating a crime. Don’t have my beautiful best friend Honey with me, though.

But nothing seemed to match the symbol on my door. Frustrated, I leaned back in my chair, rubbing my temples. There had to be something here, some clue that I was missing. I glanced at the stack of books beside me, my eyes landing on one that looked older and more worn than the others. Its leather cover was cracked and faded, the title barely legible: *The Mysteries of Silverwood.* I pulled the book closer and opened it carefully. The pages were brittle, the text handwritten in an elegant script. As I flipped through the pages, a passage caught my eye:

“Only because it’s an emergency.” Elmo rubbed his eyes, and blinked away fatigue. As his vision cleared he found himself looking at Lucas’ bookshelf, and his heart sank as he surveyed the spines of books his friend loved so much. There were copies of The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew, The Three Investigators and The Secret Seven, as well as modern mystery thrillers by authors such as Lee Child and James Patterson. But there were also older novels that Elmo recalled as movies on TCM but had never read. He saw Treasure Island and Ivanhoe, Tom Sawyer and Robinson Crusoe.

No one has found the bodies yet, though, so theres still a lingering hope out there that they're alive. I sigh as I crawl under the thick quilt, flicking on the lamo beside me as I pull out my latest find at Barnes and Nobels: The Winter Garden by the famous Kristin Hannah. This woman's books are truly amazing. Then, after an hour long reading session, I find my eyes beginning to shut against my will, so I set down the book on the bedside table and shut off the lamp. ~ The next morning...
