But then I saw it. Three figures appeared on the page, standing side by side. All of them were smiling, their hands linked together. The figures were simple, childlike, but unmistakable. A woman, a man, and a little girl. And underneath each person, Jasmine had carefully written the names: Mommy, Daddy, Jasmine. My breath caught in my throat. I felt my pulse quicken as my eyes moved over the drawing again. The happiness, the simplicity of it—it struck me harder than I expected.

He checked the name and saw Madine Oreo. “Madine Oreo?” He noticed that she had the same last name as that of Nadine. He was surprised. He wanted to question her but she was nowhere in sight. After waiting for some minutes, he walked to his car and drove home.
