"Malcolm, it's not that I want to scold you, but you've truly disappointed us. Nathan is your cousin. His parents don't want to look after him, so we took him in out of sympathy.
"He's also very sensible, obedient, and gives us no trouble at all. Do you really think you can give us less trouble than he does? What gives you the right to stand here and question us? If you keep this up, then you're no son of ours."
I stood there rigidly, watching them walk away hand in hand, unable to utter a single word.
I couldn't wrap my head around it at all. Why couldn't I feel even a shred of the love they supposedly had for me?
