The training ground was as large as the carrot and potato field in Sirka village combined. Wood practice mannequins were set on the side and the whole ground was lit with the torches that burned proudly around it. Bits of wood and dried leaves littered on the grassless area and signs of practice can be smelled on the air. Everyone was there when they arrived at the training ground and all eyes were on them as they made their way through the front.

“You nervous?” I sighed. “Terrified.” “You’ll do fine. Just don’t pass out,” she joked, nudging me with her elbow. “And if you do, make it dramatic.” I laughed. “Thanks, that’s really comforting.” We reached the training arena after a short walk. It was big—like a football field, only wider. The ground was hard-packed dirt, and there were training dummies, wooden weapons, punching bags, and all kinds of obstacles set up. The entire space was fenced in, and there were bleachers on one side where people could watch.
