MIRA'S POV My heart was racing in my chest, and I couldn't control it. I turned, and from a little distance away, Nathan was running towards me. “Mira, are you okay?" He asked, panting. I didn't respond. Instead, I turned to Luca who was behind him but not close to me. I didn't think twice. With my chest hammering like a powerplant that had run out of gas, I walked towards him. “Mira…” he started.

I saw movement in her eyes, which told me her mind was busy. Maybe she was coming to realize that what Wyatt had described was real. Mira scowled in disguise when Natalie roamed her hands on Damon's chest. "But you broke my heart!" Damon smirked. "Don't worry about it... You know I can't break your heart." Mira looked at them annoyed. She slammed the cigarette packet on the table and walked away from them. Damon chuckled at her reaction while grabbing his cigarette packet. "Damn! Was she jealous?" Mariana asked amused. "This is just the beginning!" Damon smirked at her. "Natalie, why don't you make yourself comfortable..." She smiled and nodded happily.

She pouted, tilting her head like a coy temptress. Nicolas raked his fingers through his dark curls, frustration gnawing at him. His skull throbbed with a dizzy weight, and his memory was but a foggy void. He could recall the courtroom—voices, anger, then a blur—but nothing beyond it. “Surely, you jest,” Mira cooed, twirling a strand of her raven hair around her finger. Mira turned around to take a good look at the girl who had caused so much trouble. Natalie was that standard freckled pale that goes so well with fiery red hair. Deep brown eyes turned up toward Mira. "Shouldn't I be?" Natalie couldn't explain the feelings that the strange woman evoked. She felt both safe and nervous to the point of wanting to run and hide.

Nixie looks at Mira, “sorry to interrupt whatever is going on.” She doesn’t seem sorry at all. “But I have to speak to Ivan alone.” “Oh really.” Mira stares at me weirdly with that very weird smile of hers. “I will be over there so you guys can have your chit-chat.” She jerks my elbow again playfully, before taking her tray to the other side of the room.

My head knocks lightly against the locker, a dull ache spreading behind my eyes. “Look at me when I’m talking to you.” I force myself to lift my gaze, even though everything in me wants to do the opposite. The second I do, I regret it. Their expressions—smirking, bored, entertained—it makes my chest feel tight in a way I can’t explain.
