His hand fell back down, and he took one last gasp, then he went still. Sorry? “Sorry for what?” My voice was barely above a whisper as I stared at his calm, emotionless face. He was dead. I wouldn't be receiving any answer. Zane was my only hope out of the life I was in. Now, what was I supposed to do?

The morgue was cold, carrying a foul, sterile smell. Expressionless staff pushed me into a metal drawer. With a soft "click," the door closed. The system's voice echoed in my mind. [Death confirmed. Final storyline completed.] [Countdown to soul departure: 71 hours 59 minutes.] [Please await the opening of the passage.] I drifted in the cold, hollow air and let out a breath. Finally, things were coming to an end.

I’m more than fine to let my brother do all the bullshit like getting hotel rooms and renting cars. When the metal doors finally close and I’m alone in a cell I fully understand that now is the time most people freak out. They go bat shit crazy feeling like the world is closing in on them. But for me, I more than welcome the solitude. A shifter is never fully alone and I couldn’t be happier there isn’t another body in the room. *First thing’s first, we do need to find out the cause of death. That’s going to be a big part of things,* Mick says, as I fall onto the bed.

I heard the clicking of camera shutters, but no one called the ambulance. My blood drained dry. My body became cold. Finally, Yvette Skye was no more. I died all alone at the corner of the street. No one cared. My corpse was not a pretty sight. My eyes were wide, unseeing, and there was a large hole in my stomach. My legs were twisted together. One of my arms was flung by the side of the road. My legs were useless now. I was ugly. No wonder the little girl cried. Floating in the air, I stared at my mutilated corpse.

The carousel was still there, spinning round as if nothing had changed. I bought a ticket and sat on the same familiar horse. The wind blew against my face. I closed my eyes. For a moment, I could still hear my daughter's laughter… and David warning me, "Be careful." This time, no one was with me. I rode alone. A wave of dizziness washed over me. I knew death was near. I forced my eyes open, but the world grew more and more blurred. With trembling hands, I pulled out my phone and used the last of my strength to dial a number I had not called in years.

No matter the circumstances and odds against me, I am always ready to fight until death. And let me remind you that I have slain many soldiers, knights, monsters, and beasts. Don't forget how I single-handedly killed ten vicious players. I might not know the power of the Smith or anything about the so-called nectar that General Zod and the familiar voice are requesting from me. However, I am sure of one thing. I am sure that I won't die because "Tomorrow Never Dies."

Chey picks up once again and she turns to eye him. "Don't be obvious..." I whisper. "Well, he's obviously creeping so I might be." She shrugs. We grab the shirts and move along, and the man remains staring off into space by the men's shirts. We make our way over to the bookshelves, still guarded, but enthralled at the mark downs on the paper backs. Chey and I have similar tastes so we each take a couple that we both were eyeing, knowing that we will switch off after we've read them. A particular vampire thriller catches my eye, and I grab it last second.

How am I going to get home? “Fat bitch, do you not hear me talking to you.” I don’t respond as I wonder how the hell I’m going to get out of this book. I’ve read several novels like this, but the main character almost always dies in their world. Dread fills me; did I die in my sleep? I didn’t even get to read the last Game of Thrones novel; how could I have died? I’m young and healthy, yeah I’m relatively thick, but a little fat never hurt anyone.
