'I will never accept her as my mate' .

I asked, puzzled. “That you and Matthew aren’t together; you guys are just co-parenting,” he grunted, and I swallowed hard. How did he come up with such a conclusion? “I know that he doesn’t want you as his mate; you don’t have to hide it,” he added, and I swallowed nervously. At least he is still unaware that I am his mate. “Tell me, what happened? I thought you two would be together.” He questioned me, and I frowned. “I don’t know what you are talking about…”

“What do you mean he’s my mate?” Everly asked her mother. Everyone kept telling her that Slate was her mate, like he was carrying a sign that said, “Everly and I are meant to be together forever,” and she was the only one in the universe that couldn’t see it.

I calmed myself down so I wouldn't overreact since I wasn’t sure if he had even attended the dance. “Good,” my voice came out not quite as expected, so I cleared my throat, “Did you attend?” I asked curious to know his answer. Now that I thought about it, I wasn't sure if he had a mate— I hadn't even seen him with a woman. “Nope.” I felt thrilled at his response, “Why? Do you have a mate already?” His gaze quickly moved downwards, and when they met mine, his eyes gleamed with sadness, “I had.”

He has no interest in me and it's clear that I don't have any interest in him either. HECK NO! Mate is a lot far, we can't even talk to each other normally without ending up fighting. "Ohhh," I said and rubbed the back of my head. "But it's different. I mean..normal people don't mate. Mate is a thing that can't be broken. That person is written in your faith but if a normal person rejects it, it's fine for them." He said and I gawked at him. Whatever he said just went above my head.

Micheal was only half listening to the conversation going on around him , He had thought tonight would be okay The bar was a place he’d never been, so it shouldn’t bring up memories. But the location wasn’t the problem. Maybe at some other places , it definitely was at times, but tonight, it was the company.

I rather be mateless than be the laughing stock of the school. MATE !MATE !MATE! Gray shouted but I locked him out and looked at Bennett, and said "I would rather be mateless then be mates with a nerd like you" then walked away and back to where my parents. As I reached the stadium my mom did the unthinkable. She slapped me. I looked at her with wide eyes as she glared at me

“Does he have a mate?” Bingo!

He was silent again. He didn't accept that I was his mate nor did he clarify his men's doubts. What was he thinking? ************
