My heart seemed to jump in my chest cavity when the sound of glass being broken sounded again, in the middle of the darkness I got out of bed and put on my nightrobe. "I will kill you if you touch her!" Nick's threat made me slow down my steps, with a beating heart my hand opened the bedroom door knob. Nick stood with his back to me with his body tense, He was only wearing his pajama trousers. But such a strong killing aura was emitting from his body that it made the fine hairs on my body bristle. He clenched his fists tightly and my breath caught when I saw broken glass and fresh blood flowing from his fists.

Nick fumbled with the keys in his hand as he stared at the door in front of him. Despite the fact that he had rushed out of the house, he knew he didn't leave the front door hanging. He fell under suspicion of burglary and took out his phone, setting it on the recorder . As he strolled further into the hallway, the lights went off, increasing his anxiety. He made to turn on the lights when a hand grabbed his neck from behind. “Don't you dare touch me.” He tried to fight back instantly but felt the cold metal of a gun pressed against the side of his head as he was being led to one of his rooms.

The moment her eyes met his, she gulped subconsciously because of his blood-red eyes and elongated fangs. It had been long but I still couldn't memorize its corners. I was getting tired of the walk. I let my body go limp. The dust all over seemed to be telling him how much time had passed here, and that no one had ever been here during that time. "Astrid... No, you wouldn't die..." “Do they sleep outside your house? On the stairs? If I want ice cream at two in the morning, who turns on the lights?” Nicholas, for some reason, didn’t shut her down. Didn’t snap. “They sleep elsewhere,” he replied, completely unfazed. His voice was calm, unrushed. His hawk-like eyes flicked toward the little girl beside him like her presence didn’t surprise him. Like he was used to the chatter. Used to the chaos. Used to holding a tiny hand with a purple pacifier dangling from the wrist. “How many people live in this house?” “Enough.” “Are they all scared of you?”
