Light & Darkness: Book 4

Light & Darkness: Book 4

"My grandmother told me from childhood that there is a terrible evil lurking in the dark, so I should beware of the darkness... So I have always been afraid of the dark. I always came home before dusk and asked my mother not to turn off the light in my room. Then she would light a candle for me and put it on the bedside table next to my bed to save electricity. I stared at that flame and felt safe, as if some invisible force hidden within that flame was watching over me, protecting from all evil. However, the darkness caught me then in my dreams, it lurked, hiding in its depths overgrown creatures with huge teeth, long claws and wild eyesight. Chased by these terrible creations of my childho

The Childless Sky

The Childless Sky

Seeing her like that, Jack's worry deepened. He began to regret suggesting whatever harebrained scheme had just crossed his mind. … Since I had come clean with Hannah, I felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. Now, sitting by the hospital bed, the insomnia that had plagued me seemed to give way to a rare drowsiness. I slept more soundly than I had in days, as if I had finally shaken off the heavy cloak of stress and worry. However, then, the clamor from the hallway jolted me awake.

Dragon's Breath (Book One)

Dragon's Breath (Book One)

When the sun fades and darkness settles over the land, I decide to take Soren’s advice and head out for a little while. Stripping out of my clothes, I faze and take flight into the cool night sky. Stars light the sky like snowflakes in the night. The pure black of the night is my comfort, a blanket of generous velvet that keeps me safe. It is the pure black that makes the moon so beautiful. In the moonlight, I am as the flora of nature, alive and unseeing, existing only as myself.

RESCUED HEART

RESCUED HEART

The sky was splashed with brilliant stars which illuminated not only the atmosphere but also people's hearts. Nneoma sat on her bed, munching popcorn. At that moment, she reached for a poetry book on her cupboard which she had purchased at a bookshop during the holidays. It was titled; Chimes of Golden Tunes. 'I've not read the poems,' she murmured opening the book. She positioned herself well on the bed and flipped the pages. Arriving on the first poem, she read the title slowly. 'The Iridescent Stars; mmh… Typical of tonight.'

Call of Night

Call of Night

Chapter Ten I lift my glass up and move it half an inch, pressing it down on the table so it leaves a water ring on the surface. I repeat the process, making a pattern with the condensation. “I never knew a glass of water could be so entertaining.” Eliza slides a cocktail in front of me and leans back, crossing her arms. Lucas is in the office at the bar tonight, and I’ve been sitting at a table in the back for the last half-hour reading. I just finished my book and am still reeling from the cliffhanger ending. The next book doesn’t come out for three months, dammit.

Great quicker read overall. There were unexpected plot twists and well developed banter throughout. The author brings life to different attitudes that aren’t commonly written into novels, which I loved. My only note is that I WISH the author would write more about the lives of Sara & Tab’s pups!

LIGHT AFTER DARK

LIGHT AFTER DARK

Lara recalled the cluster of security men converging on the helipad, blurred glimpses of an incredibly large white villa, and heat that only increased the nonstop pounding behind her temples. Jet lag had finally caught up with her. A rueful grimace slanted her face as she gingerly slid out of bed to gratefully appreciate that the ground beneath her feet was no longer rocking. It was dark outside. Locating the bedside light, Lara glanced at her watch. “8 pm… Are you kidding me?” The housekeeper, at least Lara assumed the warm, matronly woman who had come to her assistance was the housekeeper, had been a merciful savior. She had taken charge, banishing Christophe and helping Lara to bed.
