Nightingale Book Novels & Stories

She looked pampered and polished and expensive, like a trophy on display. "There's a book on the nightstand," Lena said quietly as the others began packing up their supplies. "The boss thought you might want something to read while you wait." I walked back to the bedroom on legs that felt like they belonged to someone else. The book was waiting for me on the nightstand, a novel I had never heard of with a cover that showed a woman standing at the edge of a cliff, looking out at a stormy sea. I picked it up and settled into the chair by the window, the silk of my dress rustling against the upholstery.

⸻ Toward evening, I set the house: half the lamps out, every second candle lit, doors closed, grates silent. The nurse begins the bedtime rhythm — no story, no melody, just a low, steady murmur. The children have tuned to it these past weeks. In the suite, Nyra flips through her journal. She doesn’t intend to fill it — just pins two words beside the date. I step closer. “What did you write?” I ask. “Measurement holds.” She looks up. “That’s enough for today.” I sit beside her. No embrace — the whole day’s been cadence; let it stay so.

"And if they try, they won't even know who to look for." Natalie placed the book safely into her backpack and looked out the window. The night was quiet. Peaceful. She whispered, more to herself than anyone else, "Let the world sleep while I rise." And the city lights flickered far below them, unaware that a storm had just begun.

And I nod, consenting to be led away, not trusting my voice to say anything. Because he’s right – I need to go to bed. Not to sleep, but instead to sit alone, in the dark, to make my plans. __________________ “Good morning, little chickens,” I whisper early the next morning as I lay myself down next to Niall in his miniature bed, unable to keep from smiling down at his tiny, perfect face. As he blinks awake my smile broadens and I shake my head a little, baffled that he slept through me coming through the door and letting the light in – that they both did.

Or maybe Hayden had, knowing him. I glanced at the hardback copy of The Nightingale on Isobel’s lap and winced, wondering if I should’ve brought a copy as well. I’d actually checked mine out from the library and returned it already. Hopefully, I wouldn’t get any brownie points taken away just because— Hey, hold up there. I frowned at Isobel’s hand wrapped around the book and set my empty glass down when I realized her ring finger looked a lot more sparkly than it had the last time I’d seen her.

She leans towards the door trying to hear the noises coming from downstairs; "Huh..." Rania gasped when she heard the sound of four gunshots reverberates in the air and then a painful scream filled the air. She covered her mouth with her both hands and closed her eyes while tears rolled down on her cheeks. She kept on praying and hoping that her Mama and Papa will be safe, she kept on repeating her prayers for so long until she lost her conscious and darkness hovered her but she was still mumbling the words; "Please stay safe, please...

I shrugged and leaned against the kitchen island as Nightingale fed herself. I let out a yawn as I began to struggle to keep my eyes open. I looked down and saw that Nightingale was almost done with her bottle. I grabbed the bottle and held it so she could drink the remaining milk. When she was finished, I put the bottle on the counter and walked into the living room, where we had Nightingale's playpen. I fixed Nightingale by my shoulder and began to pat her back. After she let out a strong burp, I slowly rocked back and forth, almost putting myself to sleep. Once I heard Nightingale's soft snores, I put her down in her playpen and lay on the couch. It didn't take long for me to fall asleep

A nurse leaned close and said softly, "Mrs. Ziegler, you should try to sleep. Mr. Ziegler may be tied up for a while yet." Thalia nodded, stretching out a hand. "Bring me 'The Little Prince'." The nurse handed it to her. She tried to turn the pages but doubled over with a fit of coughing. She pressed the thick book against her thin chest and told the nurse to go rest. The nurse hesitated, worried, but Thalia assured her she felt all right tonight. Once the nurse left, Thalia read a few pages. Later, she pushed the covers back and slowly made her way to the vanity. Just a few steps left her gasping for air.

FELYNDRA I healed. My wounds healed. I know I shouldn’t trust Nyxora, but what choice did I have? Again, I dreamt of a crying baby, and for the first time, my breast leaked with milk. I tilted my head upward and grabbed the book again. I was supposed to feed Nightbane the soup thrice, but after that heat incident, I didn’t feed him again, and now, I did not have the ingredients. I slammed the book closed and exhaled.

Amber climbed in, sliding under the duvet beside her best friend, the bed dipping slightly under her weight. She lay closer to the night lamp, flipped open the book, and took a deep breath. She shoved Raven’s voice aside, her wolf seemed to have something to say, some opinion about running back to Mason, and forced herself to focus on the words. Her eyes landed on the first paragraph. "In a land where angels and demons live together…” she muttered aloud, voice quiet and hesitant as she continued reading. Bella shook her head fondly, already drifting off to sleep beside her, breathing evening out into soft, even puffs.
