The question struck deeper than I expected. I looked away. “Sometimes,” I admitted quietly, “old memories whisper when I least expect them.” His expression changed instantly. Regret flickered across his face. He lifted his hand and cupped my cheek. “I was blind once,” he said. “I will never be blind again.” Athena’s voice softened. He speaks the truth. Kayden rested his forehead against mine. “I do not see her,” he murmured. “I see you.” My breath trembled slightly.

My head suddenly ached, feeling the same spinning sensation before. I saw the blind man lying down the library as I have dreamed of. There was only him who's left inside. There was a gun. Probably mom's gun she left. The blind man's right hand hardly tried to reach the gun. A couple of trials and attempts made, until he successfully reached the gun and held it tight. He was bathing in his own blood, as he tried picking up a book placed on the floor. It was old and big. He tried to sit, hardly moving because of his blood lost.

It was those eyes that made Clara so crazy that she couldn’t speak. “What did you try? Are you trying to find out if I’m blind or not?” He asked, then did not wait for her answer, he answered it himself. “My eyes are not so good. You don’t have to try anything. But I also have to tell you one thing, although my eyes can no longer see, my ears are very good. Your every move makes such a loud noise that it hurts my ears to hear it. Now even your breathing is like the sound of a car engine, so please stay away from me.”

She cleared her throat, and pushed on. "It really seems like you're looking at me right now." "Ahh." He turned away from her and reached for his iced tea. "I mean, I'm not complaining! It's just that...I thought you were looking at me."

He turned to face me again. His chest heaved with rage. Veins pulsed across his tattooed arms. His green eyes locked on me—those sightless eyes. They were hauntingly still. So still, they looked like they didn’t belong to the living. They were beautiful in a strange way, like something carved into his skull—empty, but alive with something darker. His blindness didn’t weaken him. It made him unreachable.

I pushed him away from his shoulder and he took some steps away. I didn't care. I stepped out to walk away and he said "You're right. I'm blind after all..." he said with an emotional chuckle. His voice wasn't as clear and clean as before, and he seemed to have catarrh. But it was as a result of crying, one could tell. "I'm really blind. I should have seen that you are no different from other girls, selfish and immature… but was it my fault? Love is really blind, and I'm just a young foolish man that let it's blindness blind me, I thought I was in love, I thought we—"

My teeth gritted against each other and my jaw clenched up as I took a heavy generous breath to calm myself down. I was already aware that I was blind, it had not escaped my mind and yet he had to just hopelessly remind me of it.. "I know that I am blind now, but I have seen dresses before and I'm hoping that I can wear something that is not too revealing. Can I at least have that? The next thing I knew his minty breath was brushing against my face informing me that he was now looking at me with barely inches between our lips.
