The next sunrise is what Melissa had been waiting for, she couldn't get to sleep last night as she doesn't know what to do. She has no idea if what she is doing is right or she just wants to do it because of the hate she has for Williams. Williams's room is just the same she saw it last, she didn't get where to open the bathroom from and she had to keep wondering where to open the door. She can't afford to call Williams so she prefers to wait till anyone comes.

“I’m such a horrible friend. Amanda has come to my house a number of times, but I have never gone to hers. I think I will pay her a visit tomorrow.” “I think that will be nice,” Todd said, kissing my hand, which he was still holding. Then he groans sadly, and my eyebrows fly up in worry. “What’s wrong?” I asked him with concern. “Nothing,” he said with a shrug. “I just don’t like remembering that there is something called tomorrow. It makes me sad.” I did not need to ask why he felt sad when he heard the word ‘tomorrow’. It was quite obvious.

"But then tomorrow won't be fine either? And then something will happen and I won't be able to stop it?" I had to sit back far enough to cup his face in my hands, thumbs nearly touching the tears that had started to well up. "Tomorrow," I let out a sigh, "hasn't come. Right here, right now, we have tonight. We have warm beds and full plates and people who love us more than the moon loves the stars. And tomorrow." I smiled, hoping my eyes would cooperate. "Tomorrow is a blank page. We can write on it whatever we want." He tilted his head, concern having given way to curiosity. "A blank page?"

His arm came around me and pulled me in slightly and I let myself be pulled and closed my eyes and listened to the quiet garden and thought about nothing in particular and everything at once. Tomorrow. Finally, Tomorrow.

I went to my room and closed the door and lay in the dark and thought about tomorrow and everything it contained, Brynn telling her father about Theo, dinner, the countdown, the dress, the two weeks of this and whatever they had been building toward or falling into or both simultaneously. 'Tomorrow,' I thought. I almost slept.

I set the phone down. And felt the noose tighten. Tomorrow. Everything changed tomorrow.

“There’s one around the corner. We can check it out tomorrow if you want.” “Oh my God,” she breathed. “There’s a book club? I’ve always wanted to go to one. Talk about books with real people and all that. Thank you so much, Nolan.” The smile in her voice made my chest ache in the best way. “But,” she added, “the book club is tomorrow. I’m talking about tonight. Like, I can’t close my eyes right now. I keep seeing that image. It’s just... messed up.” “I know,” I sighed. “But it’s too late for me to come over, and you can’t come here either. Not tonight. We’ll talk tomorrow, alright?”

I looked down at the unfinished book. At all the empty pages waiting ahead. Not demanding certainty. Not promising perfection. Just possibility. Then something caught my eye. A single line appearing slowly across the very next blank page. Silver ink. Fresh. Writing itself. Everyone leaned closer. The words formed carefully. Patiently. The library lanterns drifted overhead.
