“But I need to practice my descriptions!” “What?” Nate asked. “Descriptions for my books,” Rose took a bite of her cheese sandwich.`Kam and I rolled our eyes at the same time. “Rose, I swear those books you read are just porn with a plot,” Kam grumbled. I couldn’t help but grin. He’s not wrong. “Fuck.” Rachel stared at her phone in the hotel room. Another lonely business trip, another boring night. The steamy romance novel she’d bought at the airport wasn’t helping the growing ache between her legs. It had been weeks since her breakup, and she was horny. "Go. Browse. Get lost." I did. I lost myself in the fiction section, running my fingers along spines, reading first lines, falling into the rhythm of book shopping that I'd forgotten I loved. Ronan never wanted to spend time in bookstores—he said they made him claustrophobic. But I could have lived in a place like this. I chose three books: a literary novel about a woman reinventing herself after divorce, a poetry collection, and a thick fantasy epic I'd been meaning to read for years.

I turn around and take a look at those. "They don't feel the same anymore", I tell him. He immediately frowns in confusion. "So, you got bored with ROMANCE?" "No. But there's a reason", I say, leaning against the shelf and placing my palm over the books. Then I slowly trace my hand over them. "And the reason is—" he leans back too, a foot of distance between us but we can clearly hear each other whispering. "People who read romance, mostly women—" I giggle. "They want to escape reality. So, they can find more beautiful things in fiction"

I sucked in my breath just by the mention of the book. I never read dark romance novels, it always grosses me out, the male lead is a pure shitty devil while female lead is always a pure kind hearted angel. The book I love to read is in which there is a bubbly bakery characters. Those kinds of books make me reach my dreamland. Dylan and me.. Oh god!! I sighed. Concentrate Naomi. I kept the statue back on its place and plopped down on the couch and rested my long legs up on the coffee table.

Natasha I ran my fingers along the spines on my favorite shelf on the bookshelf in the corner of my room. This shelf was where all of my romance novels sat waiting to take me to another world where I could explore all of my fantasies that I was too embarrassed to verbalize. I picked up a newer book, that I had bought, up on a whim. It’s synopsis boasted of a reverse harem shifter theme that had intrigued me from the jump. I put it in my bag to read by the fountain in the middle of town later that day.

I leaned in a fraction of an inch, a teasing glint in my eyes, "I prefer classic literature. Russian realism, psychological thrillers. Dostoyevsky, Fitzgerald, Hemingway. I like substance." "Substance?!" Ruby mocked, completely offended. "Are you implying my romance novels don't have substance? Excuse you, but enemies-to-lovers tropes require intense psychological maneuvering! The angst! The tension! It's art, Alexander. Your little Russian thrillers have nothing on a slow-burn romance."

Cold and distant, yes, but not volatile or aggressive. "Maybe he's just stressed about something," I suggested. "Maybe," Cat agreed, but she didn't sound convinced. "Or maybe he's finally losing it from being wolfless for so long. That has to mess with your head, you know?" Oh yeah.. Nathan is wolfless, he's an Alpha with no wolf which makes him more colder to people. The conversation shifted to other topics after that, but I couldn't stop thinking about what Cat had said. Nathan acting more aggressive, more volatile. Was that true? And if it was, what did it mean?

“The novel’s title is Shocking Shocked, and it tells the story of a guy who was electrocuted after disclosing shocking news?” I bit the bottom of my lip. “Well... It’s one of my favorite novels.” She slapped herself across the forehead. “Dainty! We should not read novels like these. I assumed you were interested in romantic novels, so I let you read books, and then I’ll know that you’re reading about terror and murder novels?!” My mouth was closed. What can I do if I’m not a fan of romance novels? Horror, mystery, and psychological stories are my favorite, and not romance. When I read a romantic novel, my whole body convulses. They simply do not appeal to me.
