For the first time, Cathedra had someone who didn't cringe every time she opened her mouth to speak. So this is what having a friend feels like, huh? Cathedra thought to herself. One lunch break, while waiting for Diane underneath the tree, Cathedra was scribbling a draft of her first novel in her notebook. The novel contained the scenes she saw in the storybook, back in her kindergarten days. Since that day at kindergarten, she didn't tell anyone what she saw in the storybooks anymore. The thought of seeing things that other people couldn't still terrified her but she tried hard not to think about it by avoiding any book she can see other than school books and textbooks.

“Okay, guys. Let's head to the study room. I've got something amazing to show you guys. Elektra skipped to the study room. It was a rectangular space with hundreds of books on the shelf. College was taking a toll on him, or was it his missing wolf? Alcinder reads too much if that's a thing. I mean, this is a lot of books. “Hey! Snap out of your endless thoughts”. Elecktra brought out a giant and rusty book. It had a black cover with gold writings on it and it smelt ancient. It was parched up in many places, it looked like it would fall apart if handled carelessly. At the other end, Alcinder kept watching me with curious eyes. What was his problem today? She raised her brows. “Seriously?” He narrowed his eyes at her. “Yes, seriously! Ah yous should check it out too, come I’ll read it out to you, it’s great!” She clapped her hands in excitement. “No thank you, you know I don’t read romance,” He shook his head. “But it’s a unique one,” She protested, “A popular mystery/thriller writer is thrown inside her own novel! How cool is that?” “Hmm?” he raised his brows. “Did it pick your interest?” She wiggled her brows. “Ah, the guy has the same name as you, by the way,” She added.

I pressed my lips together and looked at the floor. "Nova Calloway," he said again. "Her routine. Where she spends time alone in the compound." I thought about Nova's reading room. The cream walls and the floor to ceiling bookshelves and the way the afternoon light came through the white curtains and she sat in it with her notebook writing things that made her smile to herself. Aurora crawling across the rug toward her. "I don't know," I whispered. He hit me again. My head snapped sideways and I tasted copper and the chair scraped against the concrete and I hung there in the zip ties for a moment that lasted a long time.

I pressed my lips together and stared around Nathan's empty room, feeling more alone than I ever had in my life. Yes, I had been living with two wolves inside me since I was eight years old. Ivy had always been there, sharp-tongued and brutally honest. But Kael joined her after the incident fourteen years ago, the one that changed everything about my life. I don't know how it happened or what went wrong, but all I know is that I have two wolves in me ever since that day. Living with two separate souls inside my head was complicated on the best of days. Today, it felt like a curse.

ROSALVA'S POV ★ As I was going to slit Damien's throat. A bird flew over to my shoulder with a piece of paper in its beak. I took out the paper to check on what is inside, it was a letter written by one of my spies. My face squeezed in displeasing at what I had read. A mean frown edged between my brow. My heart hurts to the extent of my developing seizures. I felt another creature growing inside of me, the surging pains as my veins popped out.

He looked at me, "What's the name of the novel you guys have been reading?" "Billionaire's spoiled..." "Oh, god. Stop." He says. Shalini and I have been reading a lot of smut lately. Whenever I say something kinky that the male lead does to Bash, he would smirk and say, 'Do you want to enact it? But when I mentioned the novel name, he would immediately dismiss it as though he couldn't believe that he was listening to a story he would never dare to read. "It is against my upbringing. I never imagined that I would actually ponder over the word growl. How do we do that?"

About an hour later - of much boredom, I might add - my cell phone beeped, indicating a new message from Sophie. "Lena, I couldn't get Cassie's number and Paolo doesn't understand" Damn. I ran my hands through my hair and looked around, annoyed. I remembered the book I was going to start reading earlier and got up with the intention of picking it up. I picked it up from the bench where I had left it earlier and went back to the living room of the mansion, sitting down again on the couch and starting my reading until John woke up. One o'clock. Two. Three.

he warned, his voice low as he stepped even closer, making my chest tighten. “I know that. Why were you calling me?” I asked, finally meeting his gaze, though my breath was still uneven. “There’s a new inmate,” he replied, turning and walking away, his tone calmer now. “Really? We got another troublemaker?” I scoffed, a faint smirk forming as I followed him, my curiosity creeping in despite myself. “Who is he? Another shoplifter? A petty thief? Or some small-time criminal?” “In for murder. A mass murderer, to be exact,” he answered flatly.
