Connor chuckled disdainfully and was a little speechless. “Sebastian stole someone else’s achievements and connections. Now, he even stole our design?” Seeing Nicole’s puzzled look, Leighton explained, “This laboratory is practically the same as our research institute. The entrance and the location of the anatomy room and exhibition hall are the same as our research institute.” Nicole froze in shock. “Then you guys will be familiar with the lab, right?” “Of course. I can go around with my eyes closed. It looks like today’s operation will go smoothly.”

The Labyrinth Entry The entrance gaped like a beast’s throat—twenty metres wide, as tall, a stone arch flayed by floodlights so that deep carvings cast jagged shadows. Labrys marks—double axes—glimmered where water ran down grooves older than empires. Cables snaked along the ground, feeding rows of lamps that pushed the dark only so far. The air tasted of oil, hot metal, and men who worked too long. Stephanos slipped inside, keeping low, a mouse that knew the hawks by name.

“Don’t blame your incompetence on me! I have nothing to do with your mice dying! The problem lies with your herbal medicine!” “Please stop evading the question. I’m asking you how you know you can’t access my lab. I think not many here know about this, am I right?” The others exchange looks. They genuinely were not aware of it. Each laboratory would lock itself whenever someone entered or exited. Still, as the workers had input their fingerprints and irises into the system, they could freely enter any laboratory except Lily’s.

“But it was recently renovated into something else.” “Into what?” I asked as he unlocked it. “Into this.” He pushed the door open and stepped aside. My mouth flew open. Before me was the biggest laboratory I've ever seen. Pristine white counters gleamed under bright lights, and every inch of space was filled with cutting-edge laboratory equipment. Machines and tools I’d only dreamed about stood perfectly lined up. “Oh my God,” I breathed, running forward. “Is this an autoclave?” I ran my finger over the machine, feeling the excitement of a child. “And this—this is a bio-sample processor! Nicholas, do you know how expensive these are?”

Lucas reasoned. He takes the list and his eyes widen. "Boss, these are premium quality laboratory instruments and equipment; I will need to obtain these from the Novikov medical department's headquarters," Lucas stated solemnly. He was also befuddled.

Chapter 27: The First Edition The floor of The Narrative was really quiet but you could feel the excitement in the air as Elena and Julian got out of the elevator. The big studio in Brooklyn with its brick walls and huge windows was a big change from the crazy and stressful places Elena used to work when she was writing books for other people. Downstairs the teams that did research and design were sitting around a table looking at the final versions of the book before it was printed. They were getting ready to launch the Nora Vale imprint.

The scent of the damp earth under the grass is almost overwhelmingly sharp, completely washing out the cheap cologne Jason usually wears. We finally enter the science building, the empty, echoing halls smelling strongly of industrial floor wax and the faint, lingering bite of sulfur. Jason leads me to our shared bench at the very back of the main lab. A restart of our last experiment is already bubbling away in a round-bottom flask, the heating mantle glowing a low, dangerous orange. I pull over the heavy lab notebook, my new, razor-sharp vision scanning his frantic handwriting with immediate ease.

He pushed them open and stepped aside. "Your laboratory, Miss Anastasia." I walked inside and stopped. My breath caught in my throat. The laboratory was huge. Sunlight poured through a wall of windows that faced the forest. The workstations were brand new, with gleaming steel surfaces and state-of-the-art equipment. Microscopes. Centrifuges. Genetic sequencers. Machines I had only ever read about in journals. A glass cabinet along one wall held rows of labeled samples. A computer screen on the main desk displayed a three-dimensional model of werewolf DNA.
