The high-pitched singing of the mountain's core changed into a low, predatory growl. I funneled every ounce of my stone-hate into the bedrock, helping him pull the magma upward. I slammed both of my Void-coated hands onto the rotting, copper-smelling forest floor. "FURNACE." I commanded, my voice echoing with a cosmic resonance that made the ground tremble. A localized earthquake ripped through the Blood Forest. The earth cracked open beneath the feet of the paralyzed Gloom-Stalkers. But instead of lava, a wave of superheated, molten black and violet magma erupted from the fissures. It was the fusion of the earth's core and the deep space Void. The Gloom-Stalkers didn't burn. They atomized.

“There is a spell. It's written in the books. But I never bothered to master it because I didn't think there was a way I could it.” Magma looked up. “Wait, there is but I don't think you can do it.” Why were they all saying the same thing? Now I wanted to try it. “Let me try. If I fail, then I'm the one getting embarrassed.” Magma laughed and stood up, going to the book shelf by the window and pulling out a book. “I heard of this book as a kid. It's called the book of forbidden spells. Only to be used when one is in dire danger and needs urgent saving.”

It's stupid. 'Use the ice magic that my mother gave you. Encase your hand and grab some magma. When you have it, focus and turn it to ice.' It wasn't hard to focus on the ice magic as I was pretty much turning to ice already. I did as she said. The magma didn't even feel hot against my hand. Dad watched astonished beside me. I turned the magma into ice and it was so clear it was almost like glass. I stuck it in my mouth and ate it just as Lien said to do.

They weren't just making steam; they were creating "Resonance-Crystals." The heat from the magma was passed through the "Data-Glass" salvaged from the Northern trenches, converting the thermal energy into a "Synthesis-Wave" that powered the city's internal suns—the "Glow-Lamps" that kept the crops growing in the hydroponic levels.
