Miqella gingerly touched his fingers to his forehead, “idiot.” I could only pout as they proceeded with the next steps, Miqella pulling out a map I hadn’t seen before. It was old and weathered, like faded parchment. “Is this what I think it is?” Zuri spoke up before I could, but I mimicked the way she leaned forward. I had no idea what was so special about it, but her eyes were shining. So maybe it was good? Miqella tapped it twice. “If what you think is that it’s the map Drew had, then yes.”

The map showed the three known continents, Lycori, Krel and Sargass as well as the names of all their major cities. “Can I borrow you knife?” I reached for the small knife I always carry around my belt but hesitated for a while before handing it to her. Jane giggled looking at how uncomfortably I moved around her. “I’m sorry, I assumed you wanted to know where they are. Forget I ever mentioned this.” “No… I want to know.” I just do not know what to do if they happen to be here. “Now, this spell is not perfect.” She cut her finger and let the blood drip into the map until it formed a small puddle.

Maya constructs the map at her desk, after midnight, the way other people pray. It isn't on paper. Paper isn't safe, she learned that lesson and underlined it twice. The map lives in her head, in the same filing system that has, across two lifetimes, never once misplaced a document. She is, if nothing else, organized. It's perhaps her most appealing quality and certainly her most unsettling one.

Not Barrow's routing map. Her own. The internal one. The map of the work. The territories where the investigation had run. The hubs emerging in the regions. The formation communities beginning. The unclaimed land the first. Greyfen becoming one before it became a hub. The work distributed now across three modes. Each mode necessary. Each mode serving different people at different stages. She thought about what the map looked like now compared to what it had been. Two years ago. One blank page. One question. What would it look like.

At the chamber's center rested a raised platform containing a big stone map. Not of the city. The continent. Mountains. Forests. Rivers. Kingdoms. Every land I had ever known... Carved into a single perfect circle. As I stepped closer... My mark burned warmly. The map answered. Tiny points of light appeared across the stone. One. Then another. Then another. They moved. Slowly. Like living stars. Not fixed. Alive. My breathing caught. They weren't places. They were people. One glowing point pulsed brightly beneath my feet. My mark answered with another heartbeat.

When we pulled up at the palace and I saw my new home I was overwhelmed at first as my new reality hit me. I was in the Royal city. I had always wanted to come here. You learn about it in school but unless you already live here or you have a lot of money to shop or business to carry out here, there will never be any reason for an average werewolf to go to the city.

There wasn't any map in front of me that stood out. I got up from my seat and decided to walk around the archives, perhaps then I might find something. Shelves groaned under the weight of countless maps, and I fear one day these old shelves may collapse on a poor soul's head. Hopefully I won't be that poor soul today. I passed countless maps—maps to enchanted forests, mythic isles, cursed ruin, spirits grove. But even among those maps for spirits grove, Ember Hallow was not there. Then, as I turned a corner, something drew my gaze—a map sprawled across a wooden table, illuminated by a shaft of light filtering through a dusty window. It was unlike any I had seen before.

Chad was unsure how the sudden increase in earthbound immortals was related to that. Micah smiled as he took a map from the living room's bookshelf and spread it on the table. "Do you know what this is?" Chad looked at it. "A world map. No, wait! What type of map is this?" The map showed nine continents without latitude and longitude, but the level of detail suggested that it was extremely accurate. Micah laughed. "This is indeed a world map, but it's a reproduction of one from 5,000 years ago, accurately copied from the Nine Cauldrons."

It used to be such a warm place, now it was spoiled by the attack and the abduction. Finally, my hands made their way to the pile of maps that I had seen Alastor, Damian, and Orion pouring over for days and days. Some of the maps were new, but many of the maps were extremely old, to my surprise. The older maps were drawn on pieces of parchment that were turning brown with age and fraying at the edges. I gently stacked the maps up, just straightening them into a neat pile to make them look better.

There were hundreds of books on the capital city and going through them all was taking quite some time to find any maps. Leanunya continued her search throughout the day and back into the night. It was close to the middle of the night when she finally discovered a book with a map with the layout of the city excluding the castle. She smiled and started to study the map sitting on the floor near a lamp. She suddenly sensed danger and without thinking rolled to the side dropping the book. She looked up to where she had been sitting and saw Wolferan. She bounced to her feet and ran for the nearest exit which was the window. She heard a curse from behind her even as she jumped through the window.
