James released his Divine Sense. He discovered the monsters had powers but no consciousness of their own, seemingly controlled by a mysterious force. Boom!!! Several of the monsters began to attack the formation around the city. The formation was relatively strong and managed to withstand the attacks. However, a few cracks had formed from the impact. Suddenly, eight elderly men appeared in the sky above the city. They quickly moved into different positions and began to repair the formation with all their strength, hoping it could resist the wave of monsters.

One guy died last year," Simon said, his eyes shining with amusement. Harriet listened, but she didn't look scared. She was looking at her car, a simple silver Mazda. She touched it. It looked old, but she could tell it had been taken care of. The tires were good. The engine sounded smooth and strong.

His hand lifted, hovered just inches from the handle. If he turned it , if he stepped inside there’d be no undoing it. Not this time. He could finish what they started. Bury himself so deep inside that mouth, inside that want, that for a few hours, he wouldn’t have to think about betrayal and bloodlines and wedding vows. He could forget. But the thing about monsters was they followed you, even after the lights went out. And Rafael already knew, no matter how hard he tried to kill this thing between them, it wouldn’t stay buried.

His men immediately backed off. I glare at him, pouring every ounce of hatred into it. “You’re a rookie, aren’t you?” he asks. I say nothing. “Figured,” he murmurs, his tone enough to make my skin crawl. I bite down on my lip, forcing myself to stay quiet. The image of my parents’ lifeless eyes fuels the anger burning inside me.
