It was lively and cheerful. The windows were open, and the evening breeze carried the sounds and smells of the city. I held my glass of wine and thought about the Clark family. They were probably crammed into that tiny, crumbling apartment in the old neighborhood. They probably blamed each other. They would spend the rest of their days stuck in poverty and regret. I smiled and drained my glass. Then, I turned to my friends and said with a grin, “Come on, let’s cut the cake!”

I said with genuine relief. “If I may return the question,” I added politely, “what brings you to Taste Royalty today?” His face brightened. “Ah—a class reunion. Forty years since high school, can you believe it? I replied as Les smiled at me. The reunion was held at a local park. The weather was perfect. We'd seen a few of the family at the wedding, but there were others that had traveled far.
