Mated (Mortal, Book Two)
It's well made and has stood the test of time even when the village's buildings haven't.
Alec and I share a look.
He seems uneasy, but what else is new?
"Better we keep moving," he finally says.
"Yeah." I clear my throat and step onto the bridge, leading the way.
We walk slowly, taking it easy just in case the bridge's capabilities surprise us. The wood creaks beneath our feet, and the whole structure sways with our weight.
As we walk across the bridge, the fog starts to clear, and I can see a rushing river lined with rocks below. I shiver, feeling a sense of dread wash over me. I can't shake the feeling that something terrible happened here.
