JOSH POV Now, I have my first question. “Omegas?” I ask. Maddie smiles at me again. She begins to climb the stairs as she answers me, “Omega is a ranking within wolf shifter packs. It is the lowest rank of wolves. Most packs have an abundance of lower ranking wolves, omegas being the most prolific. They tend to be the worker bees. Landscapers, housekeepers, child care givers, teachers, nurses, and doctors; professions like that who are all about care and repetition, emotional empathy, encouragement and care. They have huge hearts, and it is in theirs’s and their wolves’ natures to be attentive and nurturing to the other pack members.

"Because everything in here says an Omega always makes a nest when they find their mate An Omega who is not cared for will still make a nest. They tend to make it even earlier because they seek the comfort that they're not getting from their mate. A fully cared for Omega usually makes their nest two days before the full moon. An uncared for and neglected omega will make their nest as far out as a week away from the full moon. They do it to comfort themselves. To provide some sort of comfort and support that they're not receiving from their mate. I can't even look at these pictures! How could anyone neglect their Omega like that!"

He heard her thought but decided to ignore it for the moment and carry on with his narration. “It’s been an entire month and I've been marked missing by the town's inhabitants. A couple others have been too but we're all alive and in a pack house.” “It really does exist? A house for…” Jade asked in astonishment. “Yes it really does exist. I'm an omega. "He says I am worthless." I stare at her. "You are not ugly," I say. She shrugs. She does not believe me. "I was going to be an omega. I did not want to be an omega." "What is an omega?" "An omega is a girl who has not been claimed. They are the lowest of the pack. They do not get to run with the others. They do not get to hunt." I feel bad for her. She ran from her pack because she did not want to be an omega. But she ended up a prisoner instead. She is stuck in the white wolf's lair and she will never run with anyone.

Mum quickly grabs a clean uniform and hands it to me. "What they did is just sick," She whispers, and I shrug, putting on the clothes. Zane and Derek have already left again. I wonder where they always go. Zane doesn't tell me anything. I am secretly planning to skip today's classes. I texted my friends from my former school and they are expecting me. That's why I will sneak normal clothes into my backpack when mum leaves. "I was an omega, at least everyone thought I was," my mum starts to talk, and my brows furrow in confusion. Omegas are the lowest-ranked wolves. They are believed to be the weakest in the werewolf hierarchy. Does that mean I am omega too?

She was just close, talking to him in a soft voice, and I watched as Marcus's shoulders relaxed little by little. That was her Omega resonance. It didn't heal wounds on its own, but it settled wolves down in a way nothing else did. It reached something in the nervous system, in the wolf's instincts, and just made everything quieter.
