“Just wondering,” I muttered. The police tape had drooped even more, and the rain pooled within it. As I watched, it turned to blood, sticky and hot and red and gushing, spilling out of Toby’s neck and churning across the dark ground.
I shook myself. It was daytime, Toby was in the hospital, and we were all safe. For now.
