On The Sidewalk Bleeding Summary Novels & Stories

ASHTON The walk out of the demon house is a blur. It isn’t until we’re on the sidewalk that I realize how bad things were. The dark red blood shines like a tragic beacon in the sunlight. Cuts, scrapes, gashes batter Carden’s, Oliver’s, Rafe’s and Theo’s bodies along with those guarding the outside. “Where’s Jen?” I question on a shaky breath. I vaguely remember a scream, a blood curdling scream. “No.” The single word tumbles through my lips.

"Micah?" His voice is soothing as he bends down, kneeling on the ground. But I can’t see him, all I see is blood. So much blood. The world is red and black and white under the harsh light of the streetlamp. There are men on the ground, their bodies mangled lying in unnatural positions. I cannot tell if they are breathing. Pulling the edges of my sweater back around my nakedness, I see nothing but blood, splattered all over my front, my legs.

The burnt woman was bleeding when I opened the door, but the spots on her hands and legs where we had tried to hold while lifting her was now bleeding profusely, like water from a running tap, almost flooding the insides of the car with her blood. “ She's loosing a lot of blood!” Vivian yelped. “ Oh my gosh, she smells like grilled meat”, someone from the gathering crowd shouted and I snarled at him. “ I need everyone to back off right now. Back off right now, please, give us some space”, Dr Bailey said as she made her way through the crowd, her short frame barely making her visible. “ Give me your coat”, I said to her as the look of shock also appeared on her face on seeing the woman.

The movement draws everyone’s attention. Heads turn. People begin gathering around us. “My goodness!” A shocked gasp ripples through the crowd. “How could you push her?” someone shouts. “She’s pregnant!” My heart sinks violently. I shake my head. “No… no, I didn’t push her.” Selina cries out louder. Suddenly a panicked voice screams from the crowd. “She’s bleeding!” My eyes drop instantly. And then I see it. Blood. Dark red liquid spreading across the floor beneath her. Pooling between her legs.

Blood pooled below his face, puddling black on the poorly lit concrete beneath him. “You bitch. You fucking bitch,” he spat, gathering his hands beneath him. Sidney moved to stand, snatching her feet under her, but her leg seized in pain. The hip that had taken her fall locked around the sensation, refused to fold and bear weight. She gasped and flinched at her body’s betrayal then continued crawling backward on her hands. Tony dragged himself up, unfolding slowly to stand with more blood poured from his lips. He spit toward his feet as he stared at her sideways. Then he lunged for her again, snagging her ankle with his hand.

Pain flared hot and sudden. For a second, I saw nothing but white. Then sound rushed back in. Laughter. Footsteps shifting. My own ragged breathing. Warmth slid down the side of my face. I lifted a hand. My fingers came away smeared with red. Blood. Blood dripped from my brow to the ground, bright and shocking against the pale dust. It slid between the cracks in the soil and disappeared, as if the earth swallowed it whole. “Claire,” Sonia said, a hint of alarm in her voice. “She’s bleeding.”

I thought it was a normal feeling due to what I'd just went through back there in the procedure room, not until I started bleeding heavily. “Oh my gosh! Look at that lady over there, she's bleeding.” “Shall we go help her?” “Do you know her from the days of eve? C'mon, let's just walk away.” “She's a total stranger. We can't help her.” Passers-by started talking, their eyes fixed on me as they walked away, refusing to come help me at all. I struggled to lift my legs, and while I walked in a much slower pace, I bled, leaving a trail of blood on the road surface.

I muttered. “You need to see a doctor, you’re bleeding.” He replied. “It’s just a scratch, I’ll handle it. Just help me to the sidewalk and you can leave.” I said pointedly. The guy sighed, leaned down and gave me a hand. I took his hand and tried to stand up. A stab of pain shot through me as I stood up and started walking towards the sidewalk with the help of the stranger.

"Here, this way." Turning my body sideways, I do my best to steer him off the sidewalk into a little alley between two stores. "Oh, thank you, young lady." He leans up against the brick building as his body trembles. "Take a minute to gather your breath." I monitor his breathing the best I can from my position on the sidewalk. Besides the small scrape on his palm, which appears to have quit bleeding already, he doesn't look anything worse than a little shaken up. "The people were pushing and yelling. I didn't think I'd make it. Thank you." He stands to his full height.

Traffic stopped dead all around us with horns blaring continuously and pedestrians screaming their heads off while everyone whipped out phones to record this nightmare unfolding right there on the sidewalk. "Marco you have to help him right now please get him up off the ground he's bleeding so much everywhere I can't just stand here watching him die." I shrieked with pure panic clawing up my throat because even after everything he'd done even after all the betrayal the sight of his broken body lying there in his own blood hit something deep and human inside me that I couldn't ignore. Marco barked rapid orders into his wrist microphone while he and my other men sprinted across the intersectio
