His iris shifts from amber to electric blue. “Satisfied?” He asks and he stretches out his hands as he spreads his black wings into the air. Onyx smiles down at Cain. Cain chuckles. “Look at that self-centered trait of yours. I’m glad you still have it.” Cain says. Onyx laughs. “You really have a terrible attitude. Do your parents never teach you that? Oh. I’m sorry. They can’t, I just remember it. Because they had already dead, hadn’t they?” Onyx speaks mockingly. Cain twitches. He clenches his fist.

Then, gingerly and very slowly, he exhaled deeply, and his wings began to unfurl. They came gradually, starting at the base of his shoulders, two white shoots extending from his back, growing higher, wider, thicker as they spread back and up and out. Clara eyed the scalloped edges, yearning to trace them with her hands. The inside of his wings began to glow with velvet iridescence.

“Why is Falynx coming here?!” The massive creature named Falynx, a colossal beast that had six pairs of wings but no legs. Its head was like a crocodile’s and its wings were that of a bat. Its body was covered in peach sand scales and some patches of brown hair. It was 70 metres in length and flew about 100 metres above the sand. King Basil straightened. Phoenix’s jaw dropped. Vidhant whispered, “Whoa.”
