That honesty cuts through my walls more than any explanation ever could. I stay still for a second, unsure of what to say, how to react. And then, as if I'm watching from outside my own body, I reach out and hug her. She's stunned, motionless for a split-second. Then she slowly raises her arms and hugs me back. We stay like that for a few seconds. Both of us allowing ourselves to get lost in the moment - this one singular hug makes up for so much lost time. It begins to heal so many of the cracks between us. It's the new beginning we've both been yearning for.

“Maya, it’s Leo. Open up.” There was a long pause. Then the door cracked open. She stood there looking pissed off—cheeks flushed, eyes shiny, like she was barely holding it together. Her hoodie was zipped all the way up, but I could still picture her from the shower, wet and bold and pushing every single button I had. I reply. I wish I am truly good, but I am far from good. My reply doesn't seem to convince Caleb. He stretches his hands forward and gestures for me to come over for a hug. “I hate hugs," I reply in boredom. “I know, but this isn't about what you like or not, it is about what you need right now.
