Broken Wings
Reyes stood near the open door, strapped in, vest tight, headset buzzing with chatter.
“We have visual,” someone called from the cockpit. “One vehicle outside, beat-up pickup. No movement yet.”
The team touched down in a gravel patch nearby. Reyes and the squad moved quickly, low and silent.
Milo stepped out first, hands already raised, sweat blooming under his arms. “Don’t shoot! Don’t shoot!”
From inside, Knox followed, stumbling over himself, arms shaking in the air.
Cowards, Reyes thought. Not even a trace of fight in them.
