The Harrolds are old money, wealthy for generations, their empire spanning petroleum, wine, gemstones, and industries I can't even begin to count. Dr. Mary Harrold, a renowned surgeon, and her husband, Gregory, have two sons. Liam and Kendrick. Liam, the eldest, runs their businesses. Kendrick, the rebellious younger son who could have walked straight out of a novel was rumoured to have died in a car crash after a drunken night. His girlfriend had left him at the scene, helpless and the rest they say is history. Keisha never believed it.

I really was dying. A faint, bitter smile crossed my lips. What a pity. You’ll never have the chance to make it up to me now. Within twenty-four hours, the smell of cold iron and dried blood would seep out of that basement no one entered. Olivia always said she wished I were dead— so no one would compete with her for your love. Now, her wish had come true.

None of them had gotten it right. The real thing standing in my doorway, catching the light from my hall lamp was something else entirely. It was not costume. It was not theater. It was a specific, intentional, centuries-old object, and it was being worn by a man who had chosen it the way a man chooses a signature. The Verdict Killer was standing in my living room. I want to be precise about what that meant. Because if you live outside this city, or if you don’t read the tabloids, or if you don’t listen to the podcasts — you might think he was just one more name on one more news cycle.

A second later, the screen lit up. A photograph appeared. A man in his early fifties, sharp eyes, expression unreadable. The kind of face that blended into crowds and vanished just as easily. “This is Lorenzo Moretti,” the lead investigator said. Sophia’s breath caught. “He’s Italian,” the man continued. “A professional assassin. Old-school. Known in underground circles for one thing, clean jobs. No witnesses. No loose ends. No emotional involvement.” He paused, letting the weight of that sink in.

"I get to process a kill order." "It's also a torment order," Rocco tells me, and it fuels my excitement. I love a clean kill, clear shot, and quick but the torment x kill is my favourite one. "They set the target is very high profile." "Who is getting unlucky tod—you have to be fucking kidding me..." I pause, all excitement drained as I stare at the screen in horror. Elias left the office with his awareness humming low and steady, the system rearranging itself around him in subtle ways. He understood now that fracture did not always announce itself as chaos. Sometimes, it arrived as order, claimed by the wrong hands.

It seemed as if he spent the better half of his time eating delicacies rather than chasing criminals. ‘Sir, the victim is Esha Arora, the CEO of Arora Cements. Died of asphyxiation which was preceded by a severe blow to the head,’ said the sub-inspector in a well-rehearsed manner, pausing to allow the inspector examine the body. ‘The victim was last seen by the housemaid at 4.30 pm. She was wearing a black sweater ... We have not been able to locate it yet.’ The inspector glanced up in surprise. ‘What do you mean by not been able to locate?’

I go to my seat and put my bag there. “You asshole! How could you think of something like that? We are family here! We are not just classmates but a family. No one can be a killer to us. I know we are not too good but killing someone? Heck, we cherish each other here, Clark! Open your mind and stop thinking that one of us is a killer! Think, dude. One last time that I will hear you are thinking like that, I will punch you until you vomit blood,” Ace said madly.

“We’ll make sure of it.” I spent the next four hours at the precinct, detailing everything to the detectives: Chun Kit, the recordings, the investigation Ellison and I had worked on. Detective Stanhope looked skeptical. “You’re saying Chun Kit had him killed?” I sighed, exhausted. “I’m saying Chun Kit ordered it. He has men. Dozens. Any of them could’ve done it.” Detective Gable scoffed. “What, like a Triad kingpin?” “He is a Triad boss,” I snapped. “Just because he’s in custody doesn’t mean his hands are tied.”

Alex dipped his hands in his pocket and brought out his phone. "I'm calling them right away." I quickly grabbed the phone from Alex, while the truck driver went on his knees. "Alex, please," I pleaded. He dropped the phone and crossed his legs as he leaned backwards and spread his arms across the chair. I could tell that he was still angry. "Mr... Mr Grande was the one who ordered me to kill you, " the truck driver said. "What?" Alex and I chorused as we both sat up immediately.
