My lips are clearly reflected in the pupils of his eyes. I press my palm into the silky material enveloping his whole being. Instead of being dissuaded he clasps his hands around mine and continues to edge his lips closer to mine. "Uriah-" I spew gracelessly. He leans back and narrows his eyes on me. His face is filled with confusion. "What about him?" His fingers slide across the top of my hand as he loosens his grip. A shaky breath enters my lungs as he takes a step away from me. I want nothing more but to escape his burning gaze.

Time itself seemed to freeze as his fingers delicately brushed against the contours of my chin, a gentle yet possessive touch that sent shivers down my spine. My senses heightened and my mind became acutely aware of the intensity emanating from his deep, penetrating gaze. His striking forest-green eyes, now narrowed with an enigmatic mixture of determination and curiosity, seemed to contain hidden depths, concealing a multitude of secrets within their emerald hues. It was as if the world around us had faded into insignificance, leaving only the two of us locked in a gaze that spoke a thousand unspoken words.

I just keep a calm gaze towards the gaping muzzle, unable to kick my thoughts into motion and influence my body to move. I don’t hear whatever this person goes on saying when my vision shifts suddenly and registers a pair of glassy orbs. A dirty-blonde wolf is stalking behind the man before me, holding my gaze with extreme caution. Glassy eyes...why do they look familiar to me? Not to mention the odd familiarity embracing me as we hold subtle gazes like this. I feel no hostility nor the alarming urge to take flight. This wolf stares at me like I’m...one of its own.

They seemed to pierce through me every time she dared to lift her gaze. They weren’t like the dull brown or washed-out blues I was used to seeing in Wolf-Shifters. No, they shimmered with an otherworldly depth, glowing faintly even in the dim light of the basement. I’d never seen anything like it, and I couldn’t stop thinking about how those eyes would look, gazing up at me… filled with submission. My obsession with her had grown from fascination to a consuming need. She was mine; she just didn’t know it yet. I’d make her see it. I’d make her accept it.

But the moment my eyes lock onto the woman’s, I jolt up onto my elbows. “Who are you?” My voice is raspy and raw, like I’ve been screaming in my sleep. She doesn’t flinch at my words. Instead, she steps closer, tilting her head with the measured grace of someone who has lived long enough to find everything unworthy of haste. Her eyes are an unnatural shade of violet, which is striking and impossible to look away from. The being did not descend further. It hovered in the wound between worlds, suspended in silver nothingness, as if the laws of gravity were beneath its attention. And it watched her. Not Damien. Not the wolves gathering below. Not the Citadel trembling beneath the weight of a sky that no longer obeyed reality. Only her. Aria could feel that gaze like fingers pressed against the inside of her skull. Not invasive. Worse. Intimate. Like it had always known she would stand here.

And then our eyes connected. The shift in the air was instant. Every gaze snapped up, wide-eyed. The council members who had faced down wars, rebellions, and entire armies gasped. Their eyes weren't on the blood smeared across my dress or the blade still clenched in my hand. They were on my face. On my forehead. On the eye that pulsed open there, glowing with something otherworldly. The third eye. Elra's lips parted, her voice breaking on a whisper. " What in the world..."

The pale, dawn was rising over the window cill. 'How can you be so certain there's a foreign element?' Thade asked, his eyes searching mine for a flicker of doubt. 'If it looks so similar to my own power, how do you distinguish it?' 'Because the feeling is wrong,' I said, my face twisting into a grimace. 'I know my gift is called Sight, but this is more than just visual. It's visceral. It feels... Otherworld, Thade. But it's a perversion of it. It feels parasitic, like a slow decay eating at the edges of reality. It's bitter, uncertain, and it smells of old earth and forgotten things.'
