Her breath trembled as something inside her cracked—not with breaking, but with release. She closed her eyes, drawing the wildfire closer, not to crush it, not to run—but to face it. The whispers tore at her, but she pushed back with her own voice, raw and burning: “I am not your kindling. I am not your ruin. The warmth grew, racing through my veins like liquid fire, rushing down my arms to my fingertips. When I opened my eyes, silver flames flickered alive in my palms. I gasped softly, my heart skipping. The flames danced, small but steady, their glow lighting up my hands and the ground around me. There was something glowing in my mind that was about to explode. The fleeting feelings of unknown was at the center of my thoughts. At this moment I am a prisoner in a free world. Every corners of my mind seemed to speak by themselves and my heart seemed to be in ablaze. I stared blankly at the bright light in house in daze. It was like my eyes were roving around for something which I was not there. Something beyond its reach it persisted and jammed my heart with queer thoughts. In this night, I felt like embracing somebody. My heart felt lonely and devoid while my whole body seemed into be in flames.

I looked at her who’s already staring at me intently. “I know that’s not the main reason why you were there in that messy weather. You can tell me anything. I pulled my shirt up over my nose and mouth and pushed the door open. The heat hit me like a wall. Flames were climbing the walls, eating through the wood and paper. The room was glowing orange and red. I could hear the fire crackling, roaring like a living thing. I ran to the desk where I'd left the manuscripts. They were still there, in a leather folder. I grabbed them and turned to run. But the flames had spread. The doorway was blocked now, a wall of fire between me and the exit. I looked around, desperate. There had to be another way out.

Watching the police car drive away, I collapsed to the ground. I felt completely drained. After experiencing the same tragedy in both lives, I was at my limit physically and mentally.
