my wolf grimaces uncomfortably. “You’re not wrong on that one,” I shudder, quickly flipping the page over. The further I delve into the book, the further deteriorations I can see to its neglected condition. I can’t help but notice the thread holding the book together has begun to fray, struggling to contain the historical accounts listed inside. Its layout subtly begins to shift the more I push on, gradually altering with each entry included allowing me to differentiate between the multiple rulers listed inside.

One in particular caught her eye. Legends of the End Times. She raised an eyebrow. Okay. A little on the nose. Still, curiosity won. She pulled it from the shelf. The book snapped open as if it had been waiting for her, pages rattling violently in a still, stagnant air. Far too violently. Most were gone. Torn out. The remaining edges were clean, deliberate — like someone had chosen exactly what to leave behind. Only one page remained. Scrawled across it in uneven handwriting that wasn’t printed:

I touch its glass cover and to my surprise, it vanishes in just a snap. The book floats mid-air and emits blinding light. It starts glowing and the pages start to turn. A few moments afterward, the pages stop turning. The glow starts to vanish, and the book moves toward my hand. Just like the book I was reading earlier, it has a leather hardbound cover and its title are embroidered with gold. 'The Untold' I said as I've read the title. “Earlier, I won half a million grand, and with my house deed added in, that’s about a million. I’m not taking advantage of you.” That was exactly what Taylor wanted to hear. She swore to herself she’d win this one back no matter what. This time, she didn’t do any dramatic posing or chanting. She focused completely, listening to the dice, shaking with precision. I could feel the dark magic flowing through it and unlike the day I met Arwan and Fen, it felt like a part of me instead of a foreign invader. As if sensing me not knowing where to start or how to find the information I needed, the book pages began to flutter. I watched curiously as the fluttering increased and the pages started rapidly turning before suddenly stopping. It had turned itself to a page filled with an image of a vampire. It looked human, if it hadn't been for the heading, I wouldn't have known what it was. I whispered thanks to book, shaking my head at the notion of talking to it, and eagerly began to read.

Greta and Gabby made their way to Page Turner’s Bookstore just down the street from the Blue Moon Inn. Once inside the warmth of the large shop, Greta was surprised to see a bright modern shop, which included not only a metaphysical section, but my children’s section, too. With soft upbeat music playing in the background, it didn’t take long to find the shopkeeper chatting away to a rather wild looking dog by a fireplace.

When I stood in front of the book, the first page turned on its own. "First lesson of the Seven Magics Academy," Pops said, eyeing me. "You must never touch any of the pages in the books in this room. Touching them will increase their speed of deterioration." "Then, how?" I began, putting my hands at my sides so I wouldn't accidentally touch one. "Like this." He smiled, then leaned in close to the book. "Chapter One," Professor Pops said. The book instantly flicked to the page that said Chapter One.

The book had not reached its conclusion at all. Several leaves had been violently torn away, jagged fibers still clinging stubbornly to the binding where entire sections had once been sewn. Whoever had done it hadn't removed a few pages by accident. They had torn them out deliberately. I flipped back and forth between the remaining pages, as though doing so would somehow make the missing leaves magically appear. I was so absorbed, so desperate to uncover that final piece of the puzzle, that I barely noticed when the atmosphere in the library shifted. A familiar force pressed against my skin.
