Not yours. NO AUTHOR TRAPPED ETERNALLY, I wrote on the title page. The book snapped shut in my hands like it had been slammed from the inside. Two volumes down the row jerked off the shelf and spun in the air, pages riffling wildly as if panicked. Loose leaves broke free, fluttering like frantic birds before bursting into static.

It was silent now, aside from my footsteps, but I still could imagine just how magical it felt when the piano at the center of the room was being played. I kept searching the library; none of the titles stood out to me so I gave up and grabbed the book that was sitting in a cozy-looking chair. I plopped myself down and flipped through the first few pages. My eyebrows furrowed as I closed the book and reread the title. "The Origin of Shifters?" I murmured. This book should be thousands of pages long with obnoxiously dense material, but the one in my hands was maybe a hundred pages and full of hand-drawn pictures.

Backstage, I teared up with excitement. After that fashion week triumph, work consumed my life. Garth stayed by my side, supporting me as always. But as he scanned the barcodes, she noticed something that made her pause: On the desk, tucked half under his notebook, was a title she’d mentioned weeks ago. A book she’d offhandedly said she loved but hadn’t read since high school. No one else in the conversation had cared. But here it was. In his possession. I feel safe being alone here because I know there are two guards outside the library. If only I could do something to help Damon. If only I had the ability to recognize who betrayed Damon. I put down the book I was reading on the table and looked at the high shelves in the library and suddenly the book I saw before came to my mind. That book was written by Alpha Devon and there is a faint suspicion that there is a torn page in that book. I know it's not unusual for a book to be torn because it's natural for a book, to tear and get old...but that book was strange. The book is old, but you will know that every paper used is durable. It can't just be torn because of its old age.

The book's title is 'Herbals of the Northern Ridge', and as I stare at the front cover, I wonder if it would have what I'm looking for. Opening the book, I begin flipping the pages but after a while of searching and not finding anything, I suddenly remember that it would be easier if I would go through the index page. So I close the pages I'd opened and go to look at the index page, runningy gaze over the words showing the chapter titles and content line by line. Then finally my eyes land on a chapter title which reads 'COUNTER POISEN'. Balancing the book in my left arm, I use my right index finger to trace the page of the title, seeing that it's at Page 284.

The book was normally kept in the room with all the ancient books but on ceremonial days it was kept in the alpha’s safe.
