there's something odd about my face. As if there was a glow radiating from my face, there was not the slightest sign of sickness or paleness that could be seen from my face. I frowned when I saw the clothes I was wearing, T-shirt and leggings? I'm even still wearing a jacket. Where are my pajamas? Then the corner of my eye caught something at the nape of my neck in the reflection of the mirror, I brought my face closer to the mirror and examined it. Tattoos? A pair of small black dots with a reddish bruise covering part of my neck.

Seeing the bite marks makes my blood go cold and I lean forward and examine them in the mirror, hoping that I’m just seeing things. However, when I press against them lightly, I wince. They hurt. The skin hasn’t been broken but the pressure was hard enough to damage the blood vessels underneath the skin. I purse my lips to keep in any sound. How is this possible? Who was that person? Black fog can’t be a good sign so that means whoever bit me didn’t have any good intentions eithers.

I replied, then the pain in my neck grew worse, making me wince. “Oh yea? Then why do you flinch when I tried to mark you, huh?” He yelled. “Why is there a growing black mark on the spot?” What? I tried to get out of bed, but I suddenly realized I was weak. Not just weak, I felt faint. Panting hard, I eased myself off the bed and slowly got up, wincing hard. Then, I went to the vanity mirror and noticed tiny, black veiny marks shooting out from the wound like the roots of a tree.

"Check your chest. Now." My hand flew to my sternum before I was even fully awake. I sucked in a breath. It rattled like a bag of dry gravel. The brand—the jagged 'X'—didn't just glow anymore. The skin around it had turned a sick, necrotic purple. Black veins branched out from the center, crawling toward my collarbone like ink dropped in water. It pulsed. A low, wet throb that made my vision swim with static.

You don’t have any internal damage except for the small scratch on your forehead that you received. Also, there are no external injuries except for this” She points her pen at the left side of my face, and instinctively my hand flies to touch the left side of my forehead. The smooth texture now felt slightly jagged. “It’s nothing serious though. It will heal and the clotted skin will fall off within two days. Just avoid picking at it” She advises in her motherly tone.

He gestured for me to look back at the glass wall behind me. Curious, I turned my head to look, and there, my shadow was reflected on the glass. It wasn't very clear, but the dark marks around my neck were unmistakable. My goodness, why were those kiss marks still visible? I quickly took out a compact mirror from my purse to examine more closely. That's when I realized there were scattered reddish-purple marks from my jawline to my upper chest. I finally understood why Chris had asked if I had been bitten by mosquitoes.

So, she answered with a straight face, “All of the time, I guess.” Dr Tiana inhaled deeply. ‘Feisty couple!’ She cleared her throat and explained, "Your sickness is not life-threatening. These reddish-purple marks were caused by aggressive kissing or sucking of the soft skin. It caused the capillaries beneath the skin to rupture,” she explained. She hoped for her patient to understand the simple explanation. Jennet eyed her while smiling puzzlingly; confused at the explanation. There was silence among them as they eyed each other awkwardly. One hoped that the other to understand. The other one hopes for a much better explanation. But, neither one of the two can pick a better moment to speak.

I sighed again and looked away from the mirror but paused when I something caught my eye at the last second. I looked back at my reflection to see a faint bite mark on the side of my breast. Then another on my neck. Then another. And another. And another. There were a couple of them spaced out on certain spots on my skin, some were light pink while others were mere indents that would probably fade away in no time. Oh, Adonis.
