I didn't answer as I moved to the next shelf and the next and… there! I pulled the black spiral-bound note out and opened it to the section I remembered. "The pale wolf was only documented three times in pack history. Three times in four hundred years." I looked at the old drawing of a wolf with silver eyes, standing in the centre of a circle of other wolves, all of them flat on the ground. My heart was thumping now but I kept reading. “Their traits include silver eyes, heightened strength, unaffected by hierarchical dominance structures." I turned the page. "And the ability to involuntarily suppress or subdue other wolves. Even higher-ranked ones."

But then again, maybe they are and stay hidden like my kind. I'm an unranked member of the Moonless Night Pack. Unranked because I was born female and in our pack not all females have wolves. All males have wolves, they normally announce themselves between age 15 and age 18. Females may find their wolf on their 18th birthday or when their mate marks them. But not all females have a wolf to find. I stopped swimming after my 50th lap and floated, simply enjoying the chill of the water and the peace of the lake. I floated for a few minutes, knowing I should head for the shore but just enjoying the calm morning as the world woke up.

In the blown window, a brown she-wolf crouched half inside, breath hot and rotten, eyes intelligent and hateful. “Out of my house!” Jake bellowed. The wolf weighed him, then lifted a muscled forearm as he fired. Rounds sparked off hide and bone. Zak and Tara piled in. “Smart bitch,” Jake snapped, still working the trigger. “She’s not going down!” Zak barked, stitching a burst. “Body!” Jake yelled. They dragged fire off the skull. The she-wolf shrieked, rocked, then vaulted backward into the yard and vanished into the dark.

alpha Rowan says, he looked ruffed up, he had a big bite over his neck, and my eyes kept going back to that point on his neck. Jumping off of rocks, skirting around trees and chasing small tropical creatures and birds–anything to burn off some serious nervous energy. Her strawberry-blonde hair makes her nearly pink as her wolf counterpart, and she glows in the starlight while she licks her pale yellow paws.

The vast majority of wolves were gray or brown, or a mix of brown and gray, with the characteristic yellow eyes of their species. Yes, the wolf's eyes usually wore yellow. The only one with red eyes, the eyes of a true Alpha, was Fury, and that had always provoked reverence from everyone present. Hell was also admired, with his beautiful green eyes, which stood out from the black and glossy fur. Amid chaos and turmoil, the golden bright light dissipated, revealing the majestic figure of Skylark Bluedawn in her wolf form. The old wolves growled at seeing their old foe near them. Their shadows united to attack them materializing in a giant wolf, however, the claws of those birds were sharp and very strong. Wolf Paws wolves, along with their clans, took advantage of the help to coordinate in a single attack. The creature roared and howled, the attack on it was heavy, but it had a last resort. His eyes and hair became red and fury took hold of his soul. A part of it, the very feelings with which Kallias had fed them.

Once I got a good leverage on them, my Beta helped wipe the rest of them out. Leo’s wolf was also large, but I was much bigger. We both had razor-sharp teeth and piercing yellow eyes. My wolf was all black and his wolf was dark grey. Most of my pack were black or grey wolves. Omegas typically had light grey wolves and Alpha’s typically had black ones. All the others usually had dark grey, but sometimes they had brown or orange as well.
