But I could clearly see his sharp fangs. Grr... The pup still growled and I stepped forward as I dodged the wood, making the wolf retreat even further until it completely disappeared into the darkness. It's also a bit surprising that it retreated immediately without even fighting. I immediately turned around and saw the black puppy howling in pain and struggling to stand up. I approached him but he immediately growled as if he was afraid of me. "Shh...it's okay. I'm not gonna hurt you," I whispered but I knew that he wouldn't understand me.

Listening. Then it came closer. The baby kept crying. The wolf paused at the edge of the wreckage. It sniffed the air. Then, gently, it moved toward the child. It did not growl. It did not harm. It sat beside the crying pup and raised its head to the sky. A long, mournful howl echoed across the forest. A call. A witness. The last cry of a fallen pack… and the first of something new

As I approach, the sand-coloured dog lay on the floor and watches me with chocolate eyes that are swirling with emotion. “Evelyn. Are you ready to learn a new animal and word? This is a wolf. His name is Alfie,” my Mama tells me, and she kneels down beside me and begins rubbing the wolf's ear. “It is Papa,” I tell her, my little voice firm. I saw my Papa change. This is my Papa. The wolf snorts and licks my face, making me squeal in delight as I wrap my arms around its big neck. “Evelyn. Are you ready for your first big girl lesson? It will only take a moment and then you can play with the wolf,” my Mama tells me.

She purred as he licked her head. The black wolf continued to look in her direction. Was he looking at her? She looked to her left and to her right. There was no one else in sight. He must be looking at her. She began to walk and realized her feet were huge paws. She looked up and he continued to watch her, waiting patiently for her to reach him. She moved slowly towards him, not sure what he wanted from her. When she reached the top he met her at the edge. His tongue touched her mouth and she surprised herself by purring loudly.

He practically bounces towards me, with a big wide smile that makes my heart goes all mushy. I find puppies adorable And this wolf is kind of a puppy... a big puppy. He flops down near my chair and boops my hand with his wet nose. Then whines looking at the sandwiches. "Are you hungry?" I scratch his head and picking up the sandwich I bring it near his mouth.

Her eyes drift shut, and she nuzzles her face against my hand. The Alpha releases a sharp bark, capturing the attention of a dire wolf pup. The pup, already the size of a traditional wolf, trots over and settles at my feet. The Alpha lets out a deep howl that resonates within me. Following his lead, the rest of the pack joins in the song before turning to leave. All except the curious pup at my feet, who remains fixed on me with an inquisitive gaze.
