Paulo Coelho The Valkyries Novels & Stories

The clouds part, and beneath me is the valley of my kin. Once, it sang with laughter. Now it screams. I hover in horror as I watch the valley below; silver scales dulled by blood, wings snapped at their joints, tails twisted in death. My brothers. My sisters. My mother with her crest of pale gold. My father, his eyes frozen wide. All still. All dead. I land, or maybe I fall. “Myriad,” I whisper, naming one. Then another. “Valka. Soren. Ereth…”

Their presence threatened to shatter the ritual as their power surged. As one of the wraiths swung at her, Isolde gasped as its icy claws touched her cheek, leaving a path of flames in their wake. But before she could respond, Valdis appeared, putting himself in the way of the spirits that were attacking her. He spoke a chant in an old language, words that seemed to push back the very fabric of reality itself, and his mark, the crescent moon swirled with thorns, glowed with a dazzling light. With their distorted forms flashing like shadows caught in a tempest, the spirits flinched back.

Because he’s predominantly elf, he’s riding on Kano’s back and between the two of them, they are burning or flooding the area around us. “Bring her down!” Tarathiel screams and I feel all three ropes yank me toward the ground. I feel the heat of fire and I see a distorted looking Elio flying in iwth his misshapen body, breathing fire at the two elves holding my back legs. They jump back just as Valko leaps off Elio’s back and races toward Tarathiel. I scream at him to be careful. He’s so new to his shifter blood that Tarathiel is no match for him in a fight. I watch, helpless, as Tarathiel blows Valko into the forest.

But before I could storm out, Zaqriel’s voice stopped me. “Valkyrie is not a man.” I turned. His eyes caught mine, blazing, stripping every shield I thought I had. “Valkyrie is a bloodline. MY bloodline.”

"Lady Araida went out into the woods and would be back later today and Scarlett went for her training session by the waterfall. Any problem you look-," "Tired? Yes, I know," "I was going to say disturbed, but yeah," "Have you ever seen ghosts before or floating books?" I asked him lowering my voice as if I was saying some kind of secret. "No, Valeria I'm not one of the chosen," "That's too bad, I have to wait for Araida. The book I was reading was floating and it opened a page for me." "That's pretty cool, must be nice being chosen," he said. "And it must be nice being a sorcerer," I responded.

Brand had forgotten what it felt like – the all-consuming need for the blood of his enemies to be spilled on the ground at his feet. Brand shook his head another scream was silenced as he ripped out another throat. The blood dripped from his long snout as he took a breath and looked around him. Leather-clad warriors lay around him, some with eyes open staring at the sky as if looking for the Valkyries coming to take them to Valhalla. Brand snorted. Good luck. He couldn't believe the gods would want any of these followers of a deranged leader in their feasting halls.

It wraps around Thalos’s foundation like silk over stone. Valen steps forward. He says nothing. He never does at moments like this. His eyes meet mine, and that’s all we need. He ignites. Flames spill from his palms, licking the edge of the circle, racing along the carved runes like a fuse. The magic doesn’t burn but rather refines. It scorches away what’s broken, what’s weak, what would try to bend the barrier’s will. Valen’s fire is not meant to destroy, but to seal, to burn away the old world so a new one can rise in its place. The flames roar upward, dancing like wild serpents across the wind.

Valerie enquired. “Going with you means I am defiling what destiny has in stuck. This moment has been written since ages and has been encoded into the sands of time to come” Valerie knew she needed to do this at all cost. This was her only chance if she was ever going to get her mate back and also save the world from the terrors of her friend turned enemy Sonia. “Tell me more about this book of the gods” Valerie asked the wizard.

With a gasp, I lower my hand to the forest floor, struggling to sit up amidst the chaos. Swirls of darkness twist and coil through the air, ensnaring the Algoths one by one until they are left writhing in agony, their shrill cries echoing through the night. Then, with a sudden rush of wind, Valen descends from above, his feet touching the forest floor with an air of commanding authority.

Alice answered after a while. "So you weren't with Alastair then ... " Nick and I have known Alice for a long time. There are only a few Valkyries in this world, maybe around fourteen, maybe less. No one knows for sure. Valkyrie is the goddess of war who lived for hundreds of years, they were born from human parents or Volder. No one knows how someone could be chosen and born into this world as a Valkyrie. Many of us wanted the power of the Valkyries and hunted them down, but of course nothing worked. In the first place, the chances of encountering a Valkyrie were extremely slim ... perhaps seven billion versus fourteen? Second, nothing can beat them. Valkyrie is nicknamed the goddess of war
