“Please, take me here.” He looked at the address and said, “It’s quite far. The fare will cost you about forty dollars.” My heart fell down. I had no money. “I cannot pay right now,” I said with a trembling voice. “But please believe me; I will pay you later. This is an emergency.” The driver looked at me for a few seconds. I retorted, “You’re the one lying and twisting things. I bought this scratch-off ticket fair and square from your shop. You saw me win and got greedy. I said, starting the engine. He ignored that completely. “Can I come to the front seat? I promise I won’t touch anything.” I sighed, pretending to think. “You’ll have to pay rent if you sit up here.” He gasped. “I don’t have money!” “Then you owe me pizza,” I said, turning onto the main road. His laughter filled the car, bright and warm. “Deal!”
