Summer had just begun, there was no reason she was charging so much to digest that information. When Artemisia stopped running her fingers through the yellowish leaves, there was a drawing made with charcoal and graphite at the beginning of that page. It was the drawing of a tall being and almost all made by shadows, Delfine tried to make a scenario for that thing, but all the young woman could understand from the scribbles was a half-open window and a crow in the chest.

They look strong, with cords of muscle and thick necks. They are galloping around an open golden field, butterflies fluttering about them, landing on their ears and making the beasts neigh and buck about in annoyance. Lisa wiggles her fingers slightly, zooming the image in on one in particular, who looks slightly blue in color. Or maybe green? Mint would be the way Bailey would describe the color of the Pegasus. It’s pretty and fits Lisa perfectly. The things I thought were butterflies are actually pixies, teasing the magnificent beasts and laughing in the air when the horses react.

She was somewhere around seven or eight, completely absorbed in whatever she was drawing, her tongue pressed to the corner of her mouth in concentration. I lowered myself carefully into a chair near her, mindful of my ribs, and looked at the paper. The drawing was full. Not in a crowded way, in a deliberate way, like she had a clear picture in her head and was working her way across the page with intention. There was a dragon in the top left, red and blocky with impressive teeth. Below it, a woman in a red cape with a pointed hat on a flying broom, carefully coloured with a orange crayon. Nova POV. I did get my paper and pencils to draw, and I did a great drawing of daddy Lucifer, along with the horns, the tail and the pitchfork. Maybe it wasn't really him but that's how I'm seeing him today, he's a big evil meanie, punishing me when I did nothing! "Look" I say standing up and showing him my drawing, he take the paper from my hand and look at it, it takes him some time before turning back to me.

She touched one drawing. "This is the river. This is the buildings. This is the chamber." She moved her hand along the progression. "This is the arrivals. All of it, drawn, in order." She stopped. "And then this." Aria crouched down. The drawing at the end of the sequence was different from the others. Not architectural. Not geographical. Not the specific practical diagrams Elena had used for the physical preparations. A circle. Inside it, two figures. One large. One very small.

“I missed you too, sweetheart,” He kissed her on the forehead, the familiar warmth of her skin almost undoing him completely. Tessa grabbed his hand, tugging at it with excitement. “Come look! I made something.” Kris let her pull him across the room, each step feeling like a lead weight. She led him to the floor where a pencil drawing lay on a sheet of paper. Kris sat down beside her, feeling numb as he looked at the drawing. It was simple—just three stick people. A man, a woman, and a little girl in between them holding both of their hands.

It wasn’t quite hard to wake up from that dream, and open her eyes to her current nightmare. “What are you thinking about?” Paige asked, as she sat down on the next chair to her, she noticed that Crystal had been looking out the window for a while now and she wasn’t concentrating with work. Her eyes pried into the tablet and she noticed that she wasn’t working on any of her designs, the drawing seemed to be that of a person and a familiar one too. “Mother,” Crystal confessed, as she raised her hands tiredly to continue to finish up the art. “I have been trying so much to perfect this particular drawing; I don’t have any photos of her so it makes it difficult to get the exact facial expressio

I glance at Celine, whose expression is carefully neutral now, all traces of our moment erased. "I should eat in my office," I begin, but Caesar's face falls slightly. "Oh," he says, disappointment evident in that single syllable. "I wanted to show you my drawing." Something twists in my chest—an unfamiliar feeling that I can't quite name. "You made a drawing?" He nods eagerly. "Of dinosaurs. Like Mr. Bones." Before I can respond, Caesar walks to the table and climbs onto a chair, placing his stuffed dinosaur beside him. He looks back at me expectantly, as if it's the most natural thing in the world for me to join him.
