Bound by broken pieces
Kenneth did not answer immediately, his gaze locked on the figure with an intensity that felt personal, ancient, and when he finally spoke his voice had changed, stripped of its usual control.
“My former commander,” he said. “The one who taught me what survival costs.”
The man inclined his head slightly. “And my greatest failure.”
The forest seemed to close in.
“You are not here for peace,” Kenneth said.
“No,” the man agreed. “I am here for correction.”
The word sent a chill through me.
“You defected,” the man continued calmly. “You took assets that did not belong to you. You broke containment protocols. And now you are emotionally compromised.”
