Penny called sweetly, “more tissue.” I handed her another one. I always had them ready. “It’s not her fault she looks like this,” Penny said, smiling at the maids. She turned to me with that fake sugar-glazed expression. “Pimples. Braces. Glasses.” She sighed like she was listing a tragedy. “All the signs of an ugly girl,” she finished. She blew her nose loudly. The sound was thick and wet, and the tissue drooped from the weight of it. For someone who looked like a magazine cover, she always had stuff leaking out of her.

“We were warned when we first got here by another student. Maybe we should warn her too.” “Warn me about who?” I asked, staring around at their worried faces. “Moxie Revera. She’s the only fox shifter at this school,” Penny answered. “Fox shifters are extremely rare. We’ve been told to stay clear of her. She’s basically the queen bee and nobody messes with her. A girl was showing us around school when we first got here and that was one of the first things she said.” “Noted,” I said, trying to hide the nerves that surfaced in my belly. “Did you all know each other before you arrived?”

NOAH’S POV I sat cross-legged on the massive bed, arms folded tightly across my chest, still whining like a toddler who didn't get their favorite candy. My face was twisted into a pout I wasn't even trying to hide. Ugh, the nerve of that beast Ares—getting me all hot and needy only to just walk away! I should’ve bit him. Just as I was about to let out another frustrated sigh, the door burst open and in came Penny like a confetti cannon. Her entire face was lit up with joy, like she'd just won the werewolf lottery. Her grin could blind a solar eclipse.

I asked, suspiciously and Wolf grinned even bigger. "You all took off so fast, I needed to give Foxy something so she could buy her dress." Wolf said and he turned to Foxy and pulled out his wallet. "I owe you some money and figured that you would need it to buy your dress." he said softly as Hound and Jackal distracted the others in conversation. I wasn't going for it though and I moved closer to Foxy. She looked confused. "You don't owe me any money." she responded and he shook his head and handed her a card.

Chapter 28 Ace’s POV I hear a faint knock on the door, thinking it would probably be Kate since she said she would visit me someday while Beth was out. But the view in front of me when I opened the door, I thought I had died and come to heaven. There in all her glory was Foxy. The girl I have been crushing on for years. I knew from the last gossip that Logan had somehow fucked up and that Foxy had left him. But I could never believe that she would come to my place seeking shelter. I felt like my heart would explode with contentment and pride. She chooses to go here to ask me for help.

"And Paula Ray's daughter, Sophie, you should have seen what she was wearing today. Her skirt didn't come halfway to her knees. And she used to be such a sweet little girl. I'm just glad you never let Paige wear anything like that. Pray for her." I kept from rolling my eyes through sheer force of will. "I'll do that. Thanks, Penny, but we need to get going, don't want to be too late." Penny said goodbye and 'nice to meet you' as she smiled a big, fake smile and backed away, looking back and forth between me and Sandy a couple of times before heading down one of the aisles with her basket. "So," Sandy leaned in towards me, "you reckon anyone's ever told her gossip's a sin?"

That single action alone sent Sophie squealing like a launched firework as her face matched her nose once more. Pahhhhhh “ That's enough from you, let's go Sophie ” Penny said as she rubbed her hand. “ See you're still a brute.” Dad pouted as he stole my fries. “ Say that one more time ” Penny growled. “ Huh... say what??? How beautiful you look cosplaying as a teacher??? ” he chewed innocently as he stared at her. “ Fuck off ” she pushed him as she dragged Sophie along. Fuck is she blushing?!?!

Suddenly, Penny started to feel self-conscious about how she looked - and she didn’t usually. She resisted the urge to fuss with her hair, which she knew would be frizzy. The drier it got, the crazier she was going to look.
