The Light Through His Darkness
He chuckled softly, his breath tickling my ear as he whispered, "You know exactly how to play with fire, wife."
I glanced up at him and our gazes locked. There was something different in his eyes, something intense that made my pulse quicken.
My eyes flicked to his lips for a second too long and I felt my cheeks warm. Embarrassed, I quickly looked away, searching for a distraction.
That’s when I saw her again, the little girl from earlier. She was near the pond, reaching out toward the water.
My smile faded as I watched her lean further over the edge, her tiny hands stretching toward something glinting on the water’s surface.
