A woman leaned close to them, smiling softly as she smoothed my son’s hair. The boy was Eren, the child I had nearly given up half my life force to bring into the world. The woman was not me. I was Persephone, goddess of spring, queen of the Underworld, and Hades’s wife under every sacred law. Not long after, Nympha posted her own update on the social feed. In the illustration, my mother’s pomegranate brooch lay beside a small charm of laurel and asphodel, clumsily woven by a child’s hands. Beneath it, she wrote:

Her expression twisted in horror as she took in the bloodstained floor, the chained prisoners, the thick stench of death that clung to the air like a second skin.

Lukas leaned in and breathed in my ear, "They are Hades and his mate, Persephone." I felt my breath hitch. Even though I guessed it but knowing it was true made it feel real. Hades was clad in all-white suit with a rose on his lapel. I was expecting him to have a long white beard, but he looked youthful with his brunette hair slicked back and clean-shaven face. Persephone, on the other hand, was breathtaking with her white lace gown and her long blonde hair parted in one side. "Ahh, Lukas!" Hades cried out, wrapping his arms around Lukas and tugging him closer.

‘As if your conversations with good old Mikey are not cringe-worthy. ‘Of course, they’re not!’ I shouted at her in protest. ‘Keep telling yourself that, honey. Whatever makes you sleep soundly at night.’ “Do you want to play, little fox?” Hades asks as he leans into the curve on my neck, the one on Persephone’s side. “Before we do, we need to address the matter at hand,” Persephone was serious but her voice was seductive. She was a perfect example of what I wanted to become but failed to become.

“Yet you did not foresee that it would be Reus who would kill him. And that is why you are here. You may be Olympian, but you are still half-god. Your mother was mortal after all. On the other hand, while Reus is not fully Olympian, he is a full god. Besides that, he is the student of Hades who is practically a god among gods! Hades may be missing like Poseidon, but his influence still remains. Now that Olympus knows about Reus killing Ares, it’s only a matter of time until the entirety of the 2nd Heaven legitimizes him as the rightful heir to the throne. After all, even if I have heard about this – and I am stuck in a prison cell by the way – then almost everyone should know about it soon.”

I said. “What?!?!” Persephone exclaimed. “How is that possible?” She asked. “It’s a long story, for another day my love.” Hades told Persephone as he took her hand. “We should retire for the night. Aria, I’m going to talk to some of my advisors and come up with a plan to train you on my powers.” Hades told me. “Thank you, Hades, it was nice to meet you Persephone. Good night” I said. They said their goodbyes to everyone else and vanished into the woods.

Stupidly, she chose to keep fucking our son to create my grandchildren instead of creating more children with me. I could hear knuckles popping and Hades laughing. Aries still wanted claim over her, but he had no choice but to accept I would always be able to subdue him. For a god of war, he was a pushover. Hades didn’t give a damn about any of this.
