She doubted a zombie would be able to locate her there, even an advanced zombie. One of the things about zombies that stayed with them, no matter how much of their thinking and motor skills returned was the fact that they had poor night vision, depth perception, and were color blind. Those factors went in her favor since the opening to the root cellar was beneath a very realistic looking shrub that was attached to the trap door. Its coloring varied from those it was amongst only by the slightest degree and, unless you ran your hand over it, you’d never guess it wasn’t real. Combine that to the fact that it was nighttime, and she felt safe in her selection of hiding places.

Although, she can’t do much damage to me. Zombies are hard to kill; basic injuries don’t phase us; we barely bleed and move faster than a human. The whole misconception that zombies are mindless, slow, and easy to kill is all the things that we incorporate into the human world through movies, books, and TV shows. We wanted them thrown off, thinking that we were mindless creatures. In reality, we are intelligent, ruthless, and apathetic to most human emotions.

If Felix did have memories of such a horrific act, it would certainly explain his own extreme fear of being eaten. He knew that if Kendra was there, she’d be on the porch shooting arrows into the heads of the zombies so fast that they wouldn’t know what hit them. He’d be doing it too if he had her skill. But, that wasn’t Felix and it probably never would be. He harbored a deep rooted, over the top fear of zombies. All they could hope for was that he’d be able to function and offer some degree of help when the time came.

I looked calmly at the dark barrels pointed at me and asked, “Are you sure you want to do this? If Ruth comes back, you’ll die a very ugly death.” “She’s not coming back!” Dan roared. “There are three S-class zombies out there. She’s dead for sure!” “Stop wasting more time. Shoot him!” Callie shrieked. Dan was just about to pull the trigger when suddenly, a deafening crash exploded behind them. The door behind them was violently smashed open, and a mutated zombie burst inside with a furious roar. Everything happened so fast. It all happened too quickly. Callie, scared out of her wits, immediately grabbed Dan beside her and shoved him toward the lunging zombie.

He averted his eyes on my face once more, his smile completely faded. "NO FUCKING WAY! Don't tell me that zombies are real too!" UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE! I started to hyperventilate! My mind went into a downward spiral, thinking up ways to survive a crazy, zombie apocalypse.

Surprisingly enough, I was reborn to the timeframe where there were six hours left before the zombie outbreak began. Memories of my past life were replayed in my mind like a movie reel. It was as if I could still smell the rotten and bloodied stench wafting from the zombies. With a trembling hand, I felt my neck. Although it felt smooth and flawless, I could still feel phantom pain flaring from it. The moment my phone's screen lit up, I turned my attention to it immediately. It was currently October 2nd, 2025, also known as the day the zombie virus was leaked.

Evelyn POV “Phantom there's no way in hell I am wearing this!” Zombie complained as he held the pink t-shirt that read: ‘Down to DEFCON’. Buddha walked into the conference room with a huge smile on his face. “I don’t know Z, this shirt is pretty awesome.” He looked down at his own pink t-shirt that he had cut into a tank top. “I think pink is our color.” Zombie rolled his eyes. “You don’t even understand computers but yet you are wearing a shirt that only makes sense to computer people!”

The countdown ticked down, and I could feel my anxiety building. 5... 4... 3... 2... 1... Then— the ground underneath the flags began terrible. The ground broke open, and three figures emerged. I froze on the spot, my blood running cold instantly. There were three Zombies. One was a sword-wearing hunk with piercing blue eyes. The second was a ripped boxer with a menacing scowl. And the third... oh god, it was a fox woman with piercing green eyes and a sly grin. The sword master spoke, his voice like honey. "Ah, fresh meat."
