Author’s POV: “Aramis! I want you to accept my demise as it is and move on. Staying with the thoughts of me and remembering me every second of your life would do you no good. It is only pulling you back from doing amazing things with your kids that you can,” Phoenix whispered in his ears as he slept in his tent. Part of the reason he camped in the mountains was that he knew he will get to see Phoenix a lot. But it wasn’t much since he would normally have dreams about her every time he sleeps.

STORM. Phoenix fire was unlike any other flame. It did not feed on oxygen or fuel. It fed on emotions. More specifically, it fed on pain. And pain? Pain had teeth. Had a voice that knew your name. It could lock a person in place like rusted iron driven through bone. Stole air from their lungs. Pain convinced them they would never be whole again, that the shattered pieces of who they'd been could never be reassembled into anything worth saving.

She asked without looking at him. Luke was silent for so long that Sarah thought he was not going to answer at all. The silence and their staring contest were becoming too much for her, and she couldn’t take it anymore. She was about to give up when he mumbled. “A phoenix.” “A what?” her head snapped in his direction. “I am a phoenix,” Luke repeated, a little louder this time. “That’s not possible! They don’t exist!” Luke raised his brows in wonder. “I very much exist.” He had so many questions for her and for the first time in his long life didn’t know where to start. She obviously knew about the myths and legends of his world and was a bit shaken, so he gave her enough time to collect hers

It was different having them be so calm about me touching someone else, but it was a welcomed change. “We obviously didn’t even know Phoenix existed,” I continued, “and there’s nothing for me to go on here, so you’re going to have to really spell it out.” “A Phoenix lifespan is typically a thousand years, give or take,” Connor let go of my hands and leant back, “at the end of our lifecycle, we are drawn to our Keeper. If I die as a Phoenix, I normally just go through a rebirth, and regenerate. Now that I’ve connected with my Keeper, if I die there are two outcomes. I either turn to ash, and that’s the end of me, or my Keeper, keeps me. You’d light my body on fire when I die, or my ashes, and

“She wanted her work to protect. To expose lies, not bury them. I need a shield strong enough to stand against Vivienne, against Jonathan. Against anyone.” Daniel leaned against the console. “And how do you build that shield?” “An institution,” I said slowly. “Something bigger than me. If I’m just a woman shouting about light tests, they’ll crush me. But if I’m a foundation, a company—something with a name—maybe they’ll hesitate.” He tilted his head. “What name?” The word slid into place before I even thought. “Phoenix. I frowned down at my drink and thought about all the reasons that it really wasn't. A few hours later, most of the place had cleared out. Sara was gone, and I didn't much expect to see her again. She just didn't seem like that kind of girl. I was sitting in Phoenix's office in the back of the clubhouse. Phoenix was a hard man. He was cold and calculating, and he had one of the most intense and serious looks you could ever imagine. But underneath that exterior, Phoenix was a good man and had always done right by me. He did his best to raise me and to protect me, and he'd even tried to keep me away from the Sandcastles at one point.

“I really like to get this start, because I do have other things to do tonight.” “Like that party I heard about?” “Well, it is Raven birthday, and he is my VP also I close friend. Then more followed. Not together. Not coordinated. Just numbers. They came from different angles, different timings, each one trying to land something before someone else did. Phoenix Rise stepped into it. He didn’t retreat. He didn’t rush. He just moved. Every step placed exactly where it needed to be, every strike landing where it mattered.
