Pietra looked at her brother, then back at me, her lips trembling with the effort not to laugh.
“He has a point,” she whispered.
I took a deep breath, dramatically.
“Pietra Martins, will you be my princess, queen, empress, or any other noble title you want?”
The tears finally spilled from her eyes as she laughed, shaking her head.
“What a terrible proposal,” she said, reaching out her hand. “Of course I will, my love.”
The hug that followed nearly knocked me over. Anneliese whistled like she was at a football match, and Ettore, a soft smile on his face, raised his glass toward us.
