It's a bad thing and if you break your promise,” She leaned in to whisper and I held back from breaking Into a smile as I tilted my head down to her face. “your pinky finger will disappear forever." Chuckling, I leaned back. “Really now? I didn't know.” She seemingly looked proud of herself as she vigorously nodded. “I don't want you to loose your pinky dad. So you have to let me eat ice cream.”

I asked calmly and waited for her response. But at this, she looked a little more confused, like her small innocent mind could not possibly comprehend the complex lies that a filthy adult like me was telling. “Okay mummy”, she said finally. “Pinky swear?” I asked, smiling and raising my pinky finger. “Pinky swear”, she replied smiling back and raising her little finger also.

I felt his arms tighten around my waist. “You have to promise.” I lifted my pinky finger and presented it to him. I remembered teaching him that a pinky promise was one of the most important things in the world and he couldn’t afford to break it. “If you promise, then I’ll be left assured.” He took out his pinky and enclasped it around mine. “I swear to the gods. I will never leave you out of anything and try to do it on my own again.” He planted his lips where our fingers had intertwined and I felt my pulse quicken.
