One Night, Two Dads
I felt that familiar wave of panic building — the one that always crept in when nothing seemed to work.
“Alright,” I breathed, forcing myself to stay calm. “Let’s try this...”
I walked him over to the kitchen, humming softly while swaying side to side. His cries slowed a little — not fully calming, but less ear-splitting.
“Yeah, that’s it,” I whispered, gently bouncing him. “You’re okay... Mommy’s got you.”
I grabbed his pacifier from the counter and carefully eased it into his mouth. He resisted at first, turning his head with a frustrated whimper. But then, finally, his tiny lips closed around it, and his sobs quieted to weak hiccups.
