She freely spends her money on her dog and whatever new boy toy she picks up for the evening because she has no children. Mrs. Morales is the only one in the condo who does not have a purse dog, such as a miniature poodle or a yappy Maltese. Trixie, her giant German shepherd, had to be hers. Trixie, she swears, is just a puppy, but the size and heft of the bulldozer-like pet indicate otherwise.

But with Makayla inside, I wasn’t sure that was entirely true anymore. A blur of golden-brown fluff launched at my boots when I pushed open the door. Pockets yipped, tiny paws scrambling against my legs, bouncing energetically despite the late hour. Pockets was too adorable for words. I only knew his name because of his collar. ‘Pockets Hopkins – Demi-Dog’. I wasn’t sure what the demi-dog part was all about. Was it a jab at his size? Or was I missing some inside joke? It was probably both. “Whoa, easy!” I said softly, laughing despite myself as I stepped inside and shut the storm out behind me. “You’re supposed to be resting too, you know.”

I often wondered how my father was able to tame Knight. He said it took years of practice, but my wolf is more stubborn than his. I see Alex more like Kaira, my mother's wolf. She is impulsive to date, no matter how my mother tries to mask it. Kaira is the most impatient wolf I have ever met, followed by Aurora, Aunty Amelia's wolf. I wondered if Onyx was like that, too. Most of the wolves I know aren't tamed; they have just been through so much that they have had to grow up.

The stench hit me first. Then I saw it—a small, lifeless dog, its body limp and decaying. Puffy. Peter stumbled back, his face white as a sheet. "Tracey... Puffy... why is... why is Puffy here?" Dakota had a leather collar around her neck, with her black stockings partially rolled down. All the while, Jake kept his hand clamped around her waist.

She tells me enthusiastically, her little body bouncing around in my grasp. My widened eyes meet Derrick’s gaze over Hayden’s head, a question in their depths. As if sensing where my thoughts are headed, Derrick speaks before I can ask. “The pack breeds dogs in a large facility back behind the packhouse.” He smiles down at Hayden before asking, “Which one was your favorite?” A serious expression appears on Hayden’s angelic face as she thinks over Derrick’s question. “ I liked the wolf the best.” She says after a moment of thought, her eyes lighting up at the reminder of her favorite dog.

They don't betray you for money or power or revenge." Celeste was quiet for a moment. Then: "I've never had a dog. My mother was allergic." "Then we'll get a hypoallergenic one. Something small and ridiculous. A poodle, maybe." "A poodle." "You're making that face again." "What face?" "The face that says 'I'm Celeste Laurent and I'm too sophisticated for a poodle.'"

She releases the kite from her mouth, Mia reaches for the kite, rubbing her head, furrowed brows, saddened eyes find Melody’s, “Is it messed up, Can I still use it.” “We can get you another,” Melody stroking Mia’s chestnut locks, explains “I’m sorry, puppies are mischievous, they like to tamper with our belongings, chew things and get into things. She will make a mess, we need to keep things out of her reach and be patient with her until she learns. Ok.” Melody, snuggles Pearl close, breathing in her puppy scent. Pearl licks Melody’s face, while wagging her tail. She breathes in the ghost of Pearl’s breakfast, a beefy crumb smell, that only dogs should like.

The images were made to protrude from the pages. The coloring was very decent and everyone in the picture has their names tagged above their heads. Dwayne came over to look at the picture as well. I was standing with my hands draped around Maverick’s shoulders while my mother and Ashley were standing beside us and both Jared and Dwayne were standing on either side. The dogs were also included in the picture.
