He let out a panicked, gut-wrenching scream. "NO! FREYA!"

Selena still had tears on her cheeks, but for one instant, the look she gave my mother was cold enough to strip away every mask she had worn. Third person pov The scream was a terrified sound, filled with panic and loud enough to yank the breath right out of Naomi’s lungs. The only thing she could think of was that Isla had discovered Jace in her closet. Downstairs, everyone snapped at attention immediately. Delilah was already half-rising from the couch, her face pale. “Isla! What was that?” Calix, still holding his phone, looked up at the staircase, his jaw tight. “That was definitely from Naomi’s room.”

I scream for mommy, but she doesn't come. Jim waits until I'm quiet. I say I won't make a sound. I want mommy. He takes me to her. I'm very still. He hands mommy a bag with white powder.
