I say. He lifts his hand. The tube pulls. Black veins crawl. I take it. The world goes gold. Then black. Then full. It’s not gentle. It’s a floodgate. Every hunger D.C. ever caged. Every sin the Tree ever watered. Every bite Moira ever swallowed and wanted more. It all pours into me and through me and into the crown. Seven. I scream. Draven howls with me. More feathers tossed into the air and with a suppressed groan of pain, the blow caught the Tenth Presbyter in the arm, mangling it into an impossible angle as he tumbled to the ground. Chu Xun reached for the canine tooth. But his finger just barely grazed the tooth and it snapped into halves with a crack and from the midst of the fine hairline crack, blood began seeping out. But it was no ordinary blood. The entire sky turned red right when the blood began dribbling out as if heralding the advent of an ancient horror. The True Blood of a Suan Ni. Chu Xun's breathing began to pick up pace as he lurched with amazement. The True Blood of an ancient horror. It might be a substance of great age

I flush bashfully, heart palpitating and blood rushing with a burst. I alarmingly look away from our hands, the presence of his hand making my right thigh fidget. He's not staring at me when he affirms, "It was an incomplete array our predecessors who were after that Vampire left behind." "It renders those bloodthirsty degenerates unable to drink human blood. It becomes a lethal poison, several times deadlier than silver, and as potent as the sun" I feel a plunge in my being and rattle wholly into stiffness to hear him say that. My mind races a mile per minute and I refuse to speak anymore until we arrive at our destination.

“This vault holds our provisions. The vessels on the left are drawn from animals. The vessels on the right are human.” I stepped inside slowly, eyes scanning the endless rows. My fingers brushed across a frosted bottle, condensation trailing down the glass. Animals. Then, shifting across to the other side, I traced another vial, this one heavier, the scent so thick it nearly made me tremble. Humans. Oh my days this was enough blood to last me for decades. I wouldn't need to kill anyone again.

They coalesced into ribbons, then into streams, rushing upward toward the Spire like a reverse waterfall. The Council Elders watched in horror as the blood of their soldiers mixed with the blood of the rogues. In death, there were no factions. Only fuel. The blood swirled around Morrigan, a cyclone of crimson fluid. She shaped it with her mind, sweating blood from her own pores. " Pons Sanguineus! " she shrieked. She thrust her hands toward the cracking vortex. The blood shot forward. It didn't form a ramp. It formed spheres—stepping stones of surface tension and dark magic—leading straight into the maw of the collapsing dimension.

POV RUBY The silence of the abyss was no longer empty. It was pressurized, heavy with the presence of the thing tailing us through the subterranean currents. On the sonar screen, the signature was a pulsing, ethereal violet—a mirror image of the light that lived in my own veins. The Cónclave hadn't just built a hunter; they had engineered a bloodhound that could track a soul through four hundred meters of rock and freezing water.

Conrod abruptly stopped drinking and looked at Alud, his eyes glowing purple. Alud looked ruefully at the worried vampire and went to the center of the hall to see if Conrod was still alive. Conrod lay in a large pool of blood of Amon-ankh-Ptah, the body of the ancient still twitching and slowly drying up. When Alud came closer, he saw Konrod with burning eyes greedily drinking blood from a puddle. Alud stood up as if rooted to the spot. Conrod turned dark and greedily drank the ancient blood. His broken bones were set back into place before his eyes. Conrod abruptly stopped drinking and looked at Alud, his eyes glowing purple.

When he returned, he held out a small glass bottle filled with a transparent liquid. “You can use this instead,” he said, his fingers trembling as he handed it over. I took the bottle and examined it. It looked completely ordinary, like nothing more than water. “What is this?” I asked, shaking the bottle slightly. “A poison,” Bennet said, his voice barely above a whisper. “It’s called the Blood of Death. One of the deadliest magical substances in existence. The victim doesn’t even need to swallow it—just a single drop touching an open wound is enough to kill. It’s colorless, tasteless, and impossible to detect. If you want Jack dead, administer it yourself.”

And in the basin below, he saw his severed toes floating in a shallow puddle of blood and rising steam. He inspected the rest of his body. Bruises darkened his abdomen. Clean slice marks crossed his chest, some shallow, some deep enough that he could see the pale edge of muscle beneath torn skin. Along his left arm, veins glowed an unnatural blue beneath the surface. He sucked in a sharp breath. It was poison wrought by sylph magic. His body was fighting it, trying to burn it out from the inside. “Incredible.” The voice rolled through the chamber like distant thunder.
