Polaris instinctively stepped back, her eyes drawn to the woman, who looked so familiar.
The woman whispered comforting words to the girl, holding her close, as she finally looked up at Polaris. Her face softened with a smile, but there was something in her eyes—a recognition, maybe, or something else. It wasn’t a warm greeting, just a kind acknowledgment.
“Thank you for helping her,” the woman said, her voice smooth and composed.
